Semtech NPI Product Engineer – Bristol, UK (St James Court B)
Location & Work Model
Location: Bristol, UK Hybrid Model: 4 days in office (Monday – Thursday)
About the Team
At Semtech, the New Product Introduction (NPI) Product Engineering team drives every product from concept to market, ensuring precision, quality, and execution excellence.
The team bridges Design, Test, Validation, Quality, Reliability, Applications, and Operations, responsible for:
- Defining testability and manufacturability requirements
- Optimising yield, test costs, and reliability throughout the lifecycle
- Enabling seamless transfer from lab to high-volume production
As demand grows for high-performance optical and analog/mixed-signal IC solutions, this role strengthens our NPI capability to deliver best-in-class products for global customers.
Job Summary
We seek a NPI Product Engineer to support end-to-end product development from concept through production release, working with supportive cross-functional teams.
Reporting to the Manager of NPI Product Engineering, this role focuses on semiconductor product engineering, characterisation, test optimisation, yield enhancement, and manufacturing readiness within a fast-paced, high-impact environment.
Responsibilities
Strategic Product Lifecycle Support (25%)
- Partner with Design, Test, Validation, Quality, Reliability, Applications, Marketing, and Operations to guide projects from ideation to commercial release
- Ensure alignment across teams while maintaining quality benchmarks
Test & Manufacturability Leadership (35%)
- Collaborate on Design for Testability (DfT) and Design for Manufacturability (DfM) to enhance reliability
- Contribute to and optimise Automated Test Equipment (ATE) solutions for bench correlation
- Work on test scenario adjustments and guardbanding

Characterisation & Validation (30%)
- Support PVT (Process-Voltage-Temperature) characterisation across wafer and bench
- Drive correlation between ATE and bench conditions to improve accuracy
- Assist in defining datasheet specifications and verify qualification standards
Test Coverage & Yield Optimisation (30%)
- Conduct experimental stress tests (HTOL, ESD, latch-ups), and recommend improvements
- Lead cerebration of fab data, including analyses of manufacturing trends
- Partner with Failure Analysis and Yield Engineers to uncover root causes
Manufacturing Readiness & Cost Reduction (10%)
- Monitor production defect trends and propose actionable solutions
- Analyze TRL (test recallability received) and operational feedback
Continuous Improvement (10%)
- Propose practical optimisations for effectiveness, test-to-fail metrics, and logistics
- Challenge legacy processes and champion efficient solutions
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Material Sciences (Master’s preferred)
- Experience: 5–8 years’ hands-on experience in semiconductor (GaAs, CMOS, or BiCMOS devices), test ICs, or lab/validation roles (internships counted; relevantknow-how sought)
- Technical Tooling: Comfortable with statistical software like JMP, Excel, or Minitab
- Language & Methodologies: Familiar with ATE line operations (Adv-TEST, Advantest, Teradyne) and fundamental semiconductor testing
- Standards: Awareness of JEDEC reliability, HTOL, and wafer specifications advantageous
