Senior Radiographer or Nuclear Medicine Technologist – Fixed Term Maternity Cover
Department: Nuclear Medicine Location: Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton (with occasional satellite duties in Haywards Heath) Contract Type: Fixed term (10 months) Hours: Monday–Friday (expanding to include weekends)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Radiographer or Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our cutting-edge Nuclear Medicine department in a maternity cover contract. Working across a PET-CT-enabled service, you’ll contribute to high-quality care delivery for patients of all ages, including cardiac and paediatric studies.
This role offers an opportunity to broaden expertise, support service development, and work with a multi-disciplinary team (MDT). You’ll perform specialist tasks under strict safety protocols while maintaining patient-focused, empathetic care.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and efficiently to patients
- Perform Nuclear Medicine scans, including PET-CT imaging, with strict attention to technical and clinical standards
- Assess referrals and patient cases, managing care pathways where required
- Process and analyse images, ensuring high-quality output for diagnostic purposes
- Administer and supervise Technologists/Radiographers and support staff as needed
- Collaborate with Consultants, senior Technologists, Physics staff, and management to optimise service delivery
- Work across all Nuclear Medicine departments, including weekend/evening shifts as required
- Comply with regulatory frameworks, local rules, and health and safety legislation
- Contribute to risk management regarding ionising radiation and infection control
- Foster strong working relationships with colleagues and patients, empathising with those undergoing complex clinical procedures

Person Specification
Technical & Clinical Expertise
- Qualified Radiographer or Nuclear Medicine Technologist with demonstrated post-registration experience (preferably in Nuclear Medicine/PET-CT)
- Profound knowledge of radiopharmaceutical preparation, administration, and patient safety protocols
- Advanced expertise in imaging technologies, including strong image processing/analysis skills
- Understanding of clinical pathophysiology relating to Nuclear Medicine (cardiac, paediatric, oncological studies)
Core Competencies
- Ability to respond to challenges and work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary setting
- Resourceful and innovative to maintain timely service delivery and high patient care standards
- Strong patient-centred empathy, ensuring comfort during stressful diagnostic procedures
- Leadership potential: mentor/guide junior staff, when required
- Duty awareness ( able to work weekends, evenings, and shift patterns)
