This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate nursing professional to make a positive difference to the people we support.
Working in our Independent Mental Health Hospital in Ellesmere Port, the Senior Nurse Practitioner will work with the Registered Manager and experienced staff team to support people with complex mental health needs to regain independence, build confidence and achieve sustainable recovery.
Job Purpose

Dimensions
- Up to 10 subordinate managers and up to 35 staff.
- Decision making authority up to £1k
Principal Accountabilities
- Support the manager in building a person centred team, incorporating the principles of AFG’s standards of delivery of care to people with mental health problems.
- Inspire team members to deliver excellent care, by displaying positive drive, energy and enthusiasm.
- Demonstrate personal warmth and the ability to motivate and nurture individuals/ teams.
- Follow AFG’s policies and procedures when managing staff, utilising a performance framework to support this which is linked directly to excellence and taking action accordingly where team members are not meeting this in a fair-minded way.
- Be present and work alongside people as required.
- Take charge of the service in the absence of the manager as required and in accordance with AFG HR policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all staff work towards achieving our PROMISE to service users.
- Provide Clinical Leadership to the team to ensure that the clinical needs of service users are met by ensuring that all aspects of care follow evidence based practice and are carried out to the standard required.
- Hold a small caseload for therapeutic interventions with 2 Service Users and lead by example, demonstrating best practice within your team.
- To mentor, coach and supervise staff as required in delivering clinical interventions within a psychosocial/person centred framework.
- Attend case supervisions &/or receive Clinical Supervision from the Therapy Team where appropriate.
- Involve all appropriate members of the inpatient services in Service User reviews.
- Attend CPA &/or Ward rounds as much as possible to support Junior staff.
- Coordinate Service User review with each Named Nurse on a monthly cycle.
- Engage with families and other parties in delivering the best possible outcomes.
- Maintain effective relationships with commissioners, GP’s and other partners.
- Take responsibility for own continuous professional development and through supervision and appraisal encourage and guide the further development of others.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with the Multidisciplinary team and play an active role within Service User reviews.
- Observe and maintain awareness of the Mental Health Act 1983 and adhere to the Mental Health Act Commission Code of practice.
- Work in parallel with the therapy team (particularly the clinical coordinators) to ensure that all areas of best practice, documentation and interventions are in embedded into the service.
- Work within a structure and system that embeds person centred approaches in all aspects of service delivery.
- Supervise / Monitor performance of the infection control leads and ensure that regulatory and clinical compliance is surpassed.
- Ensure there is a vibrant, engaged community life in the areas of personal control and to contribute to best practice across the hospital.
- Take account at all times of the lived experience of people in our care.
- Support the manager to demonstrate and evidence real choice and control for all people in our care.
- Operate at all times within the regulatory and statutory frameworks governing the provision and to contribute to the reporting processes on these matters.
- Manage resources effectively & make recommendations for improvement.
- Compile reports and presentations as required.

- Support the manager in all aspects of financial and resource management as required.
- Operate within AFGs Financial procedures and policies.
- Support the manager by adopting a best value approach.
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse / Learning Disability Nurse.
- Hold a Qualification in Psychosocial Interventions and willing to work towards a degree in this topic area.
- 2 years supervisory experience in a clinical role.
- Evidence of IT competence and the ability to use ‘Windows’ applications, e-mail and internet communications.

This role is Band II as per our structure.
