Senior Occupational Therapist
About Us
The Occupational Therapy and Sensory Impairment Specialist Assessment Team is based in Barry and conducts assessments in people’s homes across Vale of Glamorgan. The team comprises Occupational Therapists, Social Care Officers, and a Rehabilitation Officer for the Visually Impaired.
Our focus is on recommending suitable equipment and adaptations to enable individuals to live safely and independently at home. We collaborate closely with other teams within Social Services to support care planning when necessary.

We’re seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to lead our specialist social care team. This role is about more than just a job—it’s an opportunity to lead, influence, and create meaningful change within a supportive and multidisciplinary environment.
You’ll apply your expertise to help individuals live independently, safely, and with dignity in their homes and communities. Responsibilities include conducting complex moving and handling assessments, arranging major adaptations, and providing specialist equipment. Your work will focus on delivering high-quality, person-centred interventions.
About You
You’re the right fit if you meet the following requirements:
Education & Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Experience & Skills
- Paid or voluntary work experience (preferably in related fields)
- Completed successful fieldwork placement (if applying to a novice year post)
- Demonstrated ability to liaise with external agencies and colleagues
- Strong understanding of professional boundaries and willingness to seek guidance when required
- Knowledge of the social model of disability and commitment to its principles
- Comprehension of the legislative framework governing social services
- Understanding of illness and disability impacts
- Capacity to work under pressure and cope with demand
- Ability to work independently and flexibly, as well as as part of a team
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Basic computer literacy, or willingness to develop necessary skills
- Good general education level expected
