Senior Occupational Therapist – Berwick Infirmary

Our well-established team based at Berwick Infirmary is seeking an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join us. This role will involve working with a multidisciplinary team on the inpatient ward, focusing on occupational therapy provision to facilitate safe and timely discharges. Additional responsibility includes supporting requests from other acute settings, utilising a discharge to assess model to facilitate local discharges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide occupational therapy services to patients across a wide range of medical specialities, including frailty/elderly medicine, orthopaedics, and stroke.
  • Manage a defined caseload of patients, utilising evidence-based clinical reasoning to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.
  • Assess and monitor the provision of occupational and environmental adaptations as required.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentoring to junior and support staff on a daily basis.
  • Offer specialist advice to families, carers, and other health and social care professionals.
  • Participate in the planning, development, and evaluation of Occupational Therapy (OT) services, taking ownership of specialist projects, steering groups, and areas of interest.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the Occupational Therapy Team within Northumbria Healthcare Trust.
  • Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary environment, providing specialist assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans using strong clinical reasoning skills.

Contract & Working Arrangements

  • Core service hours: 0830–1630 (Monday–Friday) at Berwick Infirmary.
  • May be required to work at other Northumbria Healthcare sites (Alnwick Infirmary, Blyth Community Hospital) for annual leave/sickness cover.
  • Weekend working nationally may be necessary.
  • Contractual hours: between 0800–2000 (flexible implementation possible).
