Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist
Location: West Heath House, Birmingham Salary: £49,387 – £56,515 per annum (DOE) Hours: 35 hours per week

Brainkind is seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Specialist Occupational Therapist to lead neurorehabilitation services at our Birmingham site.
This dynamic opportunity offers an Occupational Therapist with expertise in acquired brain injury and neurological rehabilitation the chance to take a leadership role. About West Heath House
West Heath House is a specialist neurorehabilitation service for adults living with severe acquired brain injury. Working within Brainkind’s neurobehavioural model, the team tackles multi-faceted challenges, such as:
- Cognitive difficulties
- Physical impairments
- Emotional and behavioural support needs
The focus is on maximising independence, enabling meaningful engagement with day-to-day activities, work, education, leisure, and community participation while preserving dignity and respect throughout rehabilitation.

The Opportunity
This role is a senior clinical and leadership position within Occupational Therapy, allowing you to:
- Lead Occupational Therapy provision, including assessment, intervention, and evaluation
- Work with complex rehabilitation needs, supporting individuals with challenging presentations
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including families, carers, and external agencies
- Pursue specialist development in neurological rehabilitation—aligning clinical expertise with the agency’s model
Ideal for an experienced Occupational Therapist seeking to expand specialist knowledge, influence care pathways, and drive clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Specialist Clinical Practice
- Practice as an autonomous Occupational Therapist in a specialist neurorehabilitation setting
- Deliver expert assessments, formulations, interventions, and evaluations, using evidence-based practice and person-centred approaches
- Manage a complex, diverse caseload of patients with neurological conditions, acquired brain injury, and challenging behavioural presentations
- Support service users in rebuilding self-care, daily living skills, vocational aims, leisure, and community participation
Rehabilitation Planning & Delivery
- Design and evaluate personalised, evidence-backed rehabilitation programmes
- Develop treatment plans tied to Brainkind’s neurobehavioural model
- Ensure seamless handover of rehabilitation to support staff and therapy assistants
- Monitor progress via data collection and measurable outcomes
- Continuously adapt interventions to evolving rehabilitation goals
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead Occupational Therapy services, driving continuous improvement
- Collaborate with:
- Service users and their families
- Occupational Therapy
- Therapy Assistants
- Medical professionals and external teams
- Maintain excellent standards of communication and clinical practice
Supporting Patients & Families
- Work sensitively with service users and their families, adapting to individual and cultural requirements
- Promote choice, dignity, independence, and autonomy throughout
- Respond to changing circumstances while maintaining a compassionate, flexible approach

Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Registration
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
- Current HCPC registration
Essential Experience
- Minimum of 4 years post-registration experience
- 2+ years working with neurological conditions, including:
- Mixed caseloads or training placements
- Experience with acquired brain injury and rehabilitation
- Specialist knowledge of:
- Cognitive rehabilitation
- Upper limb rehabilitation
- Advanced OT interventions for acute neurological needs
- Experience with complex neurological presentations
Additional Requirements
- Full UK driving licence (vehicle use for patient transport)
- Personal attributes:
- Strong clinical reasoning
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
- Empathy, resilience, and adaptability to demanding cases
- Ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate effectively
