Occupational Therapist – Older Adults Mental Health Service (West Essex)
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and friendly Older Adults Occupational Therapy team in West Essex, working across multiple community sites.
The role delivers a varied caseload of group-based and one-to-one occupational therapy for older adults with:
- Mental health needs
- Cognitive impairment
- Dementia
You will support independence, safety, and quality of life by assessing, intervening, and evaluating care across community-based settings in West Essex. The role includes:
- Screening older adults for therapeutic groups
- Facilitating Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) and other interventions
- Collaborating with a Multi-Disciplinary Team
- Conducting community-based assessments in patients’ homes
The position provides:
- Regular clinical supervision and reflective practice support
- Structured professional development opportunities
- Band 6 starting point with consideration for Band 5 development
Note: Independent travel between sites is required, including transporting equipment and intervention resources.
Main Responsibilities
Assessment & Planning
- Use an array of occupational therapy assessment tools to evaluate:
- Older adults’ abilities, strengths, and challenges in daily living
- Occupational performance and goal alignment
- Assess suitability for group interventions, contributing to care pathways and group formulation

Intervention & Leadership
- Plan, facilitate, and lead purposeful, outcome-focused group interventions tailored to older adults, including those with cognitive impairment or dementia
- Deliver community-based occupational therapy to support independence and safety in patients' homes
Case Management & Supervision
- Manage a caseload of complex community-based cases, working autonomously within professional boundaries
- Support and supervise junior staff, students, and support workers to ensure high-quality care
