Senior Occupational Therapist – Adult Social Care (Hertfordshire)

Job Title: Senior Occupational Therapist

Starting Salary: £42,839 – £47,181 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) + £1,000 welcome payment, lease car & relocation (terms apply) Hours: 37 hours per week | Hybrid/flexible working opportunities Location: Hertfordshire (across multiple teams in settings like Harpenden, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead, and Stevenage) Contract Type: Permanent, Fixed Term, or Secondment Directorate: Adult Care Services


About the Teams

Older People Service

The Older Person Service works across communities under the Care Act, safeguarding and supporting adults with long-term health and social care needs. Key teams include:

  • Older Peoples West

    • Harpenden and Villages Team (37 hrs)
    • Apsley/Hemel Hempstead Teams (37 hrs or 24 hrs part-time)
    • Herts Valley West Team (37 hrs)
    • Focus: Strength-based, person-centred support to enable independence and utilise personal/community resources.
  • Older Peoples East

    • Welwyn Hatfield & Broxbourne Team (37 hrs)
    • Focus: Connected Lives approach—prioritising personal goals and community engagement.
  • Integrated Discharge Service

    • Post-Hospital Review Team (Hemel Hempstead, 37 hrs | Permanent)
    • Collaborative role: Working with Occupational Therapists, community care teams, and healthcare partners to support safe discharges, innovative assessments, and personalised care plans. Emphasis on individual autonomy, multi-disciplinary engagement, and safeguarding.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborative Partnerships:
    • Work with multidisciplinary teams (social care, health professionals, carers) to develop innovative support strategies.
  • Strength-Based Practice:
    • Promote strengths-based assessments to maximise independence, health, and wellbeing, reducing reliance on formal care where possible.
  • Creative Problem-Solving:
    • Enhance safety and independence for service users via tailored interventions (e.g., environment adaptations, task grading).
  • Community & Team Leadership:
    • Raise awareness in your field and build rapport with partners (e.g., voluntary sector, local authorities).
    • Support junior therapists and care officers with expertise and guidance.
  • Client Advocacy:
    • Provide personalised advice to enable independence in daily life (e.g., adaptive equipment, home modifications).
    • Specialize in areas like:
      • Moving & Handling
      • Biomechanical Assessment (BiA)
      • Activity Monitoring Programmes (AMP)
      • Occupational Therapy Practice Education.

Requirements

Essential

  • HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist (current registration required).
  • Full UK driving licence with regular vehicle access (company lease vehicle offered for roles requiring mobility).
  • Min. 2 years post-qualifying experience as an OT.
  • Proven social care sector expertise, including:
    • Completing assessments & recommendations
    • Collaborative teamwork & independent practice.
  • Established right to work in the UK (proof of documentation required).

Desirable

  • Knowledge of:
    • Care Act 2014 (person-centred care policies)
    • Mental Capacity Act 2005 (older adult safeguarding).
