Why Join Us?
This is an exciting time to be an Occupational Therapist in community mental health. The NHS is transforming the way care is delivered, with a clear focus on shifting care from hospital to community, moving from sickness to prevention, and supporting people to live well in their own homes and communities. Occupational Therapists have a vital role to play in delivering this vision by promoting recovery, independence, participation, and meaningful occupation.
The Role
Working as part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team, you will:
- Manage a defined clinical caseload with appropriate supervision and support.
- Complete evidence-based occupational and functional assessments to understand an individual's strengths, needs, goals, and barriers to participation.
- Work collaboratively with service users, carers, and partner agencies to develop person-centred care and recovery plans.
- Deliver interventions that enable individuals to maximise independence, improve wellbeing, and engage in meaningful daily activities.
- Communicate complex or sensitive information in a compassionate and accessible way, ensuring individuals and families are fully involved in decision-making.
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives across community mental health services.
- Promote the value of Occupational Therapy within integrated community teams.
- Be part of a supportive Trust wide network of Allied Health Professionals

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
