The Senior O&M Engineer is a critical role within O&M of the Offshore Business focussing on the delivery of O&M scope of works in the UK and potentially overseas (USA, Germany, France...), working with Contractors, Multinational Joint Ventures and multiple departments within Offshore O&M, Offshore Operations and Global Services to ensure that SPR’s/ Iberdrola long term asset value and production revenue is maximised. Belonging to the Asset Integrity Management Department Team, and reporting to a Lead O&M Engineer or the Department Manager, the Senior O&M Engineer will be responsible for defining O&M Strategies and plans, tendering (technical), negotiating (technical) and being technical lead for small-scale offshore O&M campaigns/installations including management of contractors and associated interfaces, and ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied. The Senior O&M Engineer is a qualified experienced professional providing advice & expertise within a specific technical discipline on a particular scope of O&M work affecting combined OPEX of up to £6m/year. The individual will be working as part of a global business with activities in many countries across Europe and the rest of the world. The position may require frequent travel to various locations in the UK and overseas and during development, contracting and delivery of a scope of works the individual should be able to coordinate with teams working at different project locations.
What you’ll be doing
- Technical/engineering lead of small-scale offshore O&M campaigns/installations with a number of interfaces and coordination to manage within one or more of Iberdrola’s offshore projects mainly in UK and Ireland - and working within staff in a number of countries throughout Europe (Germany, France, Spain…) and USA
- Providing O&M engineering support, assistance and recommendations to ensure delivery of mid to large scale O&M works within time, to budget and quality following industry best practice and observing the maximum respect for Health, Safety and the Environment to ensure regulatory and legal compliance.
- Implement offshore standards, procedures, tools, best practices and quality requirements.
- Evaluate O&M solutions / risk levels affecting technical integrity or asset performance and give mitigation recommendations to the Lead O&M Engineers or Department Manager of either AIM or the sites or the readiness teams, to ensure that cost effective O&M solutions are identified, fully evaluated and the risk profile can be reduced appropriately by the O&M teams.
- Ensure that all assessment, advice and recommendations are fully documented in accordance with all internal procedures and industry best practice, and that sufficient technical and commercial due diligence (whether internal or external) exists to support those business decisions.
- Assist O&M teams in accordance with agreed SPR business processes.
- Evaluate the best course of action for technical interventions and present the case for it to internal leads and Managers or external contractors based on the analysed asset integrity status, Electricity production and other KPIs
- Provide key and strategic advice, assessment and recommendations to the business giving input and support to the projects throughout the whole life cycle (development to decommissioning)
- Provide input on appropriate bid levels / commercial strategies and commercial agreements relative to projects. Provide key input in the preparation of investment dossiers for all funding requests for projects.
- Assist an O&M scope of works team and coordinate with employees working within a number of countries throughout Europe (UK, Germany, France, Spain…) and USA to ensure project execution with intelligent and cost effective resourcing.
- Work with the HSE team to develop HSE strategy for O&M works and ensure a high standard of health and safety awareness is maintained.
- Ensure recommendations for improvement are fed into lessons learnt regarding offshore wind farm operation and Maintenance for sharing across the different Offshore Projects.

What you’ll bring
- Good knowledge and some industrial experience of a relevant area of technical speciality (eg. Wind turbines, cables, High Voltage, Scada, Drivetrains, Electronics, Data analysis).
- Some experience in analysing failures and test reports
- Some experience in defining maintenance scope of works
- Ability to manage people effectively to deliver required outputs in a timely manner.
- Competent in future planning.
- Competent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence and develop key project and business decisions.
- Developed report writing, presentation skills and ability to summarize key parameters and drivers impacting the project and business.
- Good organizational and operational skills with the ability to link this awareness to
- Technical judgement and decision making.
- Good planning and analysis skills with the ability to look forward and anticipate problems and thereafter plan and implements mitigating solutions to negate the effect of such problems.
- Ability to work, manage teams and manage decision making process under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Ability to support the management of a scope of works which require interface and coordination.
- Ability to manage change and experience of leading others through change.
- Contribute (or ensure resources are available) to early development projects, giving advice to development teams on repairability/ maintenance issues.
- Recruit staff necessary to deliver O&M works over the above timescales.
- Advice on the impact of technical/ specialist risks and issues and the viability of solutions recommended.
- Balance technical detail with commercial needs and provide recommendations, taking into account all relevant risks.
- Develop and apply knowledge of European/local country standards
- Some experience of offshore operations.
