Senior Operating Partner - People
SumUp is building a full-featured personal account for consumers across Europe—making it easy to spend globally, manage money, and get rewarded for everyday spending.
As our Senior Operating Partner - People, you'll act as the strategic right hand to the Tribe Lead, helping shape how one of SumUp’s newest and fastest-growing businesses scales. This is less of a traditional HR Business Partner role and more about driving strategic people initiatives, leading high-impact programmes, and ensuring the organisation is set up to scale successfully.
Working at the intersection of strategy, operations, and people, you'll partner closely with senior leaders, Talent Acquisition, Finance, and the wider People team to turn ambitious business goals into practical execution. You'll use your deep people expertise to influence organisational decisions, build high-performing teams, and create the operating rhythm that allows the business to scale.
What You’ll Do
- Act as the strategic operating partner to the Tribe Lead, helping shape organisational priorities and ensuring key initiatives are executed successfully.
- Own the tribe’s people strategy, translating business objectives into clear workforce, organisational, and talent plans.
- Lead cross-functional strategic programmes across hiring, organisational design, leadership development, engagement, and performance.
- Drive the operating cadence of the leadership team—tracking priorities, surfacing risks, and ensuring delivery against key people and business goals.
- Partner closely with Talent Acquisition to drive hiring strategy, monitor pipeline health, remove blockers, and ensure hiring plans stay on track.
- Work alongside Finance and leadership to support workforce planning, organisational effectiveness, and headcount decisions.
- Adapt and evolve SumUp’s people programmes to meet the needs of a fast-moving incubation business, balancing when to leverage existing frameworks and when to build something new.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on organisational health, performance, succession planning, and leadership effectiveness.
- Use data and AI-powered tools to identify trends, improve decision-making, and scale people operations through smarter ways of working.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
