HV Senior Authorised Person (SAP) – 132kV (SSEN)

Location: UK

Salary: Circa £90,000 + benefits

Type: Permanent

Overview

We are seeking an experienced High Voltage Senior Authorised Person (SAP) with current or recent SSEN 132kV authorisation to support the operation, maintenance, commissioning, and delivery of high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the safe execution of work on the network while supporting capital projects, outages, and network operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a Senior Authorised Person under SSEN Operational Safety Rules up to and including 132kV.
  • Prepare, issue, and cancel Safety Documents, Permits-to-Work, and Sanctions-for-Test.
  • Manage and coordinate planned outages and switching programmes.
  • Undertake HV switching operations on 33kV, 66kV, and 132kV systems.
  • Provide operational support during commissioning, energisation, and fault response activities.
  • Ensure compliance with SSEN Operational Safety Rules, company procedures, and statutory regulations.
  • Review switching schedules, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Support project delivery teams during construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
  • Mentor and support Authorised Persons and engineering staff.
  • Liaise with DNOs, ICPs, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Participate in emergency call-out and fault restoration activities where required.

Essential Requirements

  • Current or previously held SSEN 132kV Senior Authorised Person (SAP) authorisation.
  • Significant experience operating and maintaining HV electrical networks.
  • Strong knowledge of transmission and distribution systems up to 132kV.
  • Experience preparing and implementing switching programmes.
  • Proven understanding of electrical safety legislation and operational safety rules.
  • Ability to interpret SLDs, protection schemes, and operational diagrams.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
  • Experience within renewable energy, battery storage, solar, or utility infrastructure projects.
  • Protection and control knowledge.
  • Previous experience working with DNO or utility networks.
