Senior Operations Manager – A&A Operations

Location: Radlett

Competitive Salary + Bonus + Company Car/Allowance + Benefits

We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Operations Manager to lead our Aggregates & Asphalt operations, driving performance, safety, and operational excellence across a portfolio of assets.

This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for delivering business performance, developing high-performing teams, and creating the long-term strategy that ensures our operations continue to thrive.

The Opportunity

As Senior Operations Manager, you will provide leadership and direction to a team of Operations Managers, ensuring the safe, efficient, and profitable delivery of our operational objectives.

You will be accountable for operational performance, financial delivery, people development, and strategic planning, whilst championing a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Leading Our People

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Operations Managers.
  • Drive talent management, succession planning, and capability development.
  • Support graduates, apprentices, and future leaders within the business.
  • Create a positive, inclusive culture where everyone can perform at their best.
  • Ensure teams have the skills, competence, and training required for success.

Driving Operational Excellence

  • Deliver performance targets across safety, production, quality, and cost.
  • Maximise operational efficiency through strong OOE and OEE performance.
  • Embed continuous improvement and promote innovation across the business.
  • Ensure effective management of customer complaints and root cause analysis.
  • Optimise resource utilisation, material balance, and stock management.

Strategic & Commercial Leadership

  • Develop and deliver annual operational strategies for your portfolio.
  • Lead asset planning and capital investment programmes.
  • Manage budgets and drive financial performance across the area.
  • Support procurement activities and major operational projects.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to maximise business opportunities.

Health, Safety & Sustainability

  • Champion a zero-harm culture and visible felt leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory, environmental, and operational standards.
  • Lead the delivery of health, safety, and sustainability objectives.
  • Monitor performance data to identify trends and drive improvements.

Requirements

We are seeking a proven operational leader with experience managing large-scale industrial, manufacturing, quarrying, asphalt, construction materials, or heavy engineering operations.

You'll ideally have:

  • Significant leadership experience managing managers and multi-site operations.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen with budget accountability.
  • Experience driving operational excellence and continuous improvement programmes.
  • Excellent coaching, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • A strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Experience developing talent, succession plans, and high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Desirable Experience

  • Aggregates, quarrying, asphalt, or heavy manufacturing operations.
  • Capital investment and asset management programmes.
  • Quarry Regulations 1999 knowledge.
  • Understanding of mineral planning, restoration, and sustainability principles.
