Senior Engineer – Pavement Engineering & Construction Materials
AECOM – Transportation – Hybrid (Europe & India)
About AECOM
At AECOM, we’re delivering a better world. Our global team of 50,000+ professionals across engineering, design, and construction management partners with clients to tackle the world’s most complex infrastructure challenges—shaping smarter cities, sustainable transport, and resilient communities.
We empower our employees to innovate, grow, and make an impact, with a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and environmental excellence. As a Fortune 500 firm, we deliver transformative projects worldwide, driven by technical expertise, digital innovation, and a culture that values every talent.
About the Role
We’re seeking a Senior Engineer to join our multidisciplinary pavement engineering and construction materials team. This is a prime opportunity for professionals with established expertise to take technical ownership, collaborate across airports, ports, highways, and transport infrastructure, and shape the future of sustainable design and construction.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Engineer, you’ll:
- Formalise technical authority – Lead complex pavement engineering tasks, design assessments, back-analysis, and materials-based work with minimal supervision.
- Drive independent judgement – Deploy subject matter expertise, review standards/specifications, and contribute technical input to scope, fee estimates, and project resourcing.
- Mentor and support – Oversee analysis produced by Engineers, check outputs for accuracy, and guide junior team members.
- Act with agility – Apply engineering judgement in constrained environments, whether due to program deadlines or budget constraints.
- Showcase innovation – Collaborate on improving technical workflows, data consistency, and digital tools.
- Engage on-site – Participate in inspections, technical troubleshooting, or field evaluations as required.
- Grow as a leader – Contribute to Chartership support, learning opportunities, and professional development within a supportive global firm.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
