Senior Payroll Accountant

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Payroll Accountant based in United Kingdom.

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of payroll accounting operations across multiple entities and international markets. You will play a key role in ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency while supporting a growing global workforce.

Working closely with HR, Legal, Treasury, Tax teams, and external partners, you will help maintain reliable payroll processes and financial controls. The position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys solving complex payroll challenges and improving processes.

You will join a collaborative remote environment where attention to detail, ownership, and continuous improvement are highly valued. This is a chance to make a direct impact by strengthening payroll operations within a fast-evolving international organization.

Accountabilities:

The Senior Payroll Accountant will be responsible for managing payroll accounting activities, ensuring accurate reporting, and improving payroll processes across multiple jurisdictions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Calculating payroll and personnel-related expenses for assigned entities.
  • Coordinating payroll activities across multiple countries, legal entities, and external service providers.
  • Collaborating with HR, Legal, Treasury, and Tax teams to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Performing payroll-related account reconciliations and supporting month-end closing activities.
  • Managing relationships and communication with external payroll providers, accounting firms, EOR partners, and other service providers.
  • Reviewing and validating payroll calculations prepared by outsourced teams.
  • Ensuring payroll data is complete, accurate, and delivered according to deadlines.
  • Supporting payroll software, reporting tools, and related systems to improve operational visibility.
  • Developing, documenting, and enhancing payroll processes, controls, and workflows.
  • Identifying process inefficiencies and implementing improvements to increase scalability and accuracy.
  • Supporting payroll audits by preparing documentation, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Investigating and resolving payroll-related issues while managing operational requests efficiently.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced accounting professional with strong payroll expertise, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a global, evolving environment. Required qualifications and skills include:

  • 6+ years of accounting experience, including significant experience with payroll accounting and personnel-related expenses.
  • Strong understanding of payroll accounting principles, reconciliations, accruals, internal controls, and month-end closing processes.
  • Experience managing relationships with external payroll providers, outsourced teams, EORs, and other service partners.
  • General knowledge of payroll-related tax, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience supporting payroll operations across multiple jurisdictions; familiarity with UAE and UK payroll requirements is a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to learn country-specific payroll regulations and processes.
  • Proven ability to create, streamline, and improve operational processes in fast-growing environments.
  • Strong analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience using payroll software, EOR platforms, and ERP systems such as Oracle NetSuite.
  • Proactive, hands-on, and solution-oriented approach with strong collaboration skills.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and quality while working under pressure.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
