Senior Payroll Administrator

Salary: £30,000–£35,000 FTE
Working Pattern: Hybrid | 30 hours per week
Location: Ipswich

The Role

You will be responsible for managing your own portfolio of payroll clients, ensuring payrolls are processed accurately and on time while delivering an excellent client experience. You'll also support the wider payroll team, share your expertise, and contribute to process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process for a portfolio of clients.
  • Process payrolls accurately, including pensions, statutory payments, and auto-enrolment.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, managing expectations and responding to queries.
  • Liaise with HMRC and other third-party providers where required.
  • Review payroll work completed by junior team members and provide guidance and support.
  • Act as a key point of contact within the payroll team for technical and legislative queries.
  • Deliver training and coaching to colleagues on payroll legislation and systems.
  • Carry out payroll checks to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and streamline payroll processes.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and assist with ad hoc projects and reporting.

About You

  • At least 2 years' payroll experience, ideally within a payroll bureau or accountancy practice.
  • Strong end-to-end payroll processing experience, including pensions, benefits, and statutory payments.
  • Ability to manually calculate payroll where required.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK payroll legislation and auto-enrolment.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a varied workload.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members.
