The Role
As Payroll Manager you will be a member of the Group Snr HR team reporting to the Group People Director.
You will be responsible for ensuring the monthly payrolls on both People XD, Jersey Payroll and Fourth, across the Majestic Group are processed accurately and on time (including joiners, leavers, salary changes, service awards, pensions, job and department changes, inter region transfers).
This is an operational role which requires line management of both the payroll and the team of 2 Payroll Administrators and 1 Payroll Manager
As both a Manager and Subject Matter Expert you will be responsible for providing guidance and advice, alongside your team on all payroll and benefits related matters both to the People team and the wider Group Business with support from the Group People Director and the Business Unit People Directors
Key Responsibilities
The main responsibility of this role is to oversee the payroll function ensuring that all employees get paid accurately and on time!
Payroll
- Ensuring People XD payroll deadlines are met and staff receive their correct salary payment monthly and p45s are processed for leavers across the Group
- Overseeing the Fourth payroll system (Vagabond) to ensure that payroll deadlines are met in the same way
- Ensuring the payroll process and associated administration is carried out in accordance with the appropriate company policy and procedure.
- Ensuring the accurate calculation and payment of company and statutory payments to include: salary, bonus, service award, sick and holiday pay, statutory sick, maternity, paternity, adoption and parental pay, starter and leaver adjustments, and any other manual payments as required.
- Maintaining accurate payroll procedures to ensure continuity of service during any periods of absence or staff turnover
- Oversee the ‘add hours’ process with the payroll team
- Oversee the Freshdesk system (internal queries platform) and respond to escalated queries from the team
- Provide HMRC with accurate, monthly and timely year end data in line with their RTI procedures
- Manage and reconcile the year end payroll to include P60’s, P11db’s and Class 1A NIC’s, as required
- Apply current legislation to all payroll practices and Auto Enrolment legislation for pension
- Manage the company ‘payrolling benefits’ process
- Being the point of contact for People XD in relation to any specific technical issues, resolving system issues for the team and employees, raising cases and maintaining the relationship with the People XD Account Management and Customer Success team

Knowledge & Skills Required:
As a Subject Matter Expert the expectation is that you would support, advise and educate both your People Team colleagues, Line Managers and colleagues. As a Snr member of the wider People you would also provide guidance on payroll matters where required to ensure that processes where smooth and maintained

The successful candidate will have a minimum five years of payroll experience having worked on a range of different systems. Experience of working with an inhouse payroll system and ideally with People XD (Access) and ideally Fourth To be analytical, articulate and approachable. Have the ability to work under pressure and sometimes to changing priorities Be reliable and honesty Have the ability to process intermediate functions and formulas in Microsoft Excel Have a strong attention to detail Excellent communication skills A CIPP qualification essential however work experience is also very important Experience of managing a team and the ability to do so in a motivating and encouraging way to specifically drive the right behaviours within the team Be prepared to take a high level leadership view but at the same time happy to get involved in the detail – this is an operational role which requires a level of administration of the monthly payrolls
