Senior Payroll Officer
Location: London
Contract Length: 3 Months
Rate: £36.08 per hour (Umbrella)
Hours: 36 per week
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join a busy payroll function within a large public sector organisation based in London. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to take ownership of the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payroll delivery while maintaining compliance with statutory, pension and organisational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full end-to-end payroll production cycle
- Review and validate payroll inputs and outputs
- Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and organisational policies
- Complete payroll reconciliations and liaise with finance teams
- Manage third-party payments and submissions
- Produce payroll outputs including payslips, P45s and P60s
- Investigate payroll discrepancies
- Support pension administration processes
- Manage payroll-related enquiries
- Support payroll system testing and upgrades
- Maintain payroll procedures and training materials
- Assist with pay awards and retrospective calculations
- Provide support and guidance to Payroll Officers.

- Significant payroll experience
- Experience with Oracle Payroll
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation and pensions
- Experience processing complex payrolls
- Knowledge of HMRC requirements
- Advanced Excel skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure
- Excellent communication skills.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of Teachers’ Pensions and LGPS
- Local government payroll experience
- Experience mentoring junior staff.
