Senior People Manager – Fixed Term Contract

Join our team at the Guardian and be part of a diverse and inclusive global organisation delivering fearless, investigative journalism that holds power to account. We foster a challenging and collaborative environment with a focus on training, professional growth, and an inclusive culture.

About the Role

We are recruiting a Senior People Manager to join our People team for a 12-month fixed-term contract, filling a capacity during maternity leave.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert-level advice, guidance, and support to managers on investigations, disciplinary, and grievance matters, serving as the first-line support for casework within the People Team.
  • Collaborate with the Senior People Partner and the wider HR Business Partner (HRBP) team to support effective and consistent capability and performance management for managers.
  • Guide and advise on all aspects of employee relations, including policies, processes, and employment law.

About You

  • Experience working within (or gaining an appreciation for) the dynamics of a busy media organisation, including navigating unionised environments and stakeholder processes.
  • Understanding of the sensitivities surrounding information released to the public domain.
  • Experience managing stakeholders, especially those who are challenging or difficult.
  • Strong literacy and exceptional attention to detail to handle complex HR cases.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
