Senior Pharmacist, Children and Young People
Mental Health Pharmacist – Children’s Services (CAMHS) – NELFT
About the Role
This role is ideal for an ambitious mental health pharmacist seeking to develop leadership and service development skills within a supportive environment.
The post holder will work with the consultant pharmacist for children and young people (CYP) as part of a multidisciplinary team, focusing on safe and effective medicines management for child and adolescent mental health (CAMHS) services, both in-patient and in community settings.
The pharmacist will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with regulatory medicines management standards, implementing medicines safety alerts, and delivering on the Trust’s Pharmacy & Medicines Optimisation Strategy within CAMHS.
Key Responsibilities

Medicines Management (CAMHS Services):
- Oversee safe and compliant medicines use across CAMHS in-patient units and community services.
- Ensure regulated medicines management standards are met andstringent adherence to medicines safety protocols.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency medicines safety alerts with swift, evidenced action.

Service Development & Implementation:
- Collaborate with the Chief Pharmacist and Consultant Pharmacist to advance the Trust’s Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Strategy in CAMHS.
- Support the expansion and improvement of medicines-related services for children and young people, aligning with clinical, operational, and strategic goals.
- Help drive innovation in medicines prescribing, dispensing, and pharmacotherapy across adult and child mental health services.

Stakeholder & Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with clinical, nursing, and administrative teams to ensure a seamless medicamenting landscape.
- Act as a trusted clinical adviser to prescribing clinicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals on therapeutic management.
- Liaise with external healthcare bodies, regulatory agencies, and relevant stakeholders to maintain best-practice adherence.

Patient & Service Safety:
- Monitor medicines-related risks within CAMHS and initiate preventive measures to mitigate adverse events.
- Ensure confidentiality, accuracy, and legality of all medicines-related documents, records, and audits.

- Seek professional development opportunities and maintain up-to-date knowledge in clinical pharmacology, evidence-based practices, and emerging drug therapies.
- Engage in training, mentorship, and service review to enhance skill sets and leadership abilities.
Requirements

Professional Registration:
- Must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy qualification (minimum Diploma/CPD) and/or Psychiatric Therapeutics experience applicable.

Mental Health Experience:
- Evidence of significant post-registration experience within mental health settings, preferably involving CAMHS or paediatrics.

Key Competencies:
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) required for engagement with clinical teams, service users, and stakeholders.
- Demonstrates strong clinical reasoning, analytical skills, and attention to detail in high-pressure environments.
- Ability to effect systemic changes, propose improvement initiatives, and work towards evidence-based clinical guidance.
- Capable of independent working while maintaining accountability, team collaboration, and leadership initiatives.

- Outer London (Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, Havering, Waltham Forest, etc.): 15% of basic salary (minimum: £4,714 p.a., maximum: £5,941 p.a.).
- Frexe Outer Rainham Zone (Basildon, Thurrock, Brentwood, Harlow, Dartford): 5% of basic salary (minimum: £1,303 p.a., maximum: £2,198 p.a. for part-time roles).
