Position
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Pharmacist Renal Disease within our Pharmacy Department based at University Hospital Crosshouse.
Hours And Shift Pattern
- 36 hours/week.
- In accordance with AFC terms and conditions you may be required to work over 7 days and/or an extended working day.
- You will be required to participate in departmental rotas including weekends and extended hours.
- This post is offered on a permanent basis.
What You Will Do

As Senior Clinical Pharmacist Renal Disease you will:
- Provide clinical leadership to a small team of specialist pharmacists and a specialist pharmacy technician working within a well-established multidisciplinary team.
- The team provide clinical pharmacy services to renal outpatients, patients attending the renal dialysis units and inpatients, including renal high-dependency patients.
- Work as an independent prescriber within this specialty managing your own caseload of patients in areas such as anaemia and polycystic kidney disease.
- Support the ongoing development of prescribing activity within renal medicine.
- Provide mentorship and clinical supervision to other pharmacist prescribers within the specialty.
- Lead on medicines governance within the specialty, including ongoing development of prescribing guidance, introduction of the West of Scotland formulary and ensuring the cost-effective use of medicines through horizon scanning and monitoring of the renal prescribing budget.
- A clinical pharmacy service is provided to patients attending the renal unit at University Hospital Ayr and so travel within acute sites within NHS Ayrshire & Arran will be required.

Knowledge, Training And/or Experience Required To Do The Job
- You must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Applicants should hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or have completed the RPS Core Advanced Curriculum (or provide evidence of significant progress towards completion or demonstrable evidence of clinical knowledge equivalent to that level).
