Senior Pharmacy Technician - Patient Services
Clinically Focused Pharmacy Technician (Senior) – Maternity Cover – Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board
Job Overview
This is a fixed-term / secondment position until August 2027, covering maternity leave within Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan.

We are inviting applicants for an enthusiastic, ambitious Pharmacy Technician to join our clinical team. The role offers opportunities to learn, develop, and lead in a dynamic NHS setting, supporting senior pharmacy management and hospital supply workflows.
About the Role
We seek a compassionate and skilled leader committed to:
- Developing staff in alignment with departmental goals.
- Supporting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and service improvements.
- Enhancing efficiency post-Electronic Prescribing Medicines and Administration (ePMA) system rollout (2026).

Bilingual awareness: While not mandatory, speaking Welsh is desirable—but applications in English or Welsh will always receive fair consideration.
Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Influence pharmacy policy alongside multidisciplinary teams.
- Coordinate dispensary technicians & assistants to ensure safe, effective care for patients.
- Drive innovation and efficiency, particularly in the new ePMA digital system.
- Mentor and uplift pharmacy staff, fostering individual growth.
- Monitor workflows, meet performance targets, and contribute to cultural change.

Detailed Job Description
Experience
Essential
- Post-qualification experience in pharmacy services.
- Proven ability to manage pharmacy teams.
Desirable
- Diverse exposure across pharmacy specialties.
Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Services Skills (or equivalent).

- WCPPE-accredited qualifications (including Checking Pharmacy Technician, Medicines Management).
- ILM/Management certification (Illuminated Leadership Mark).
Aptitude & Abilities
Essential
- Discipline, time management, and dispensing skills.
- Patient counselling and clear communication (written/verbal).
- Training/mentoring expertise, prioritisation, delegation.
Desirable
- Prior interviewing experience.
Key Knowledge
Essential
- In-depth specialist knowledge of pharmacy services (equivalency to degree).
- Budget control awareness.

- Knowledge of health service trends affecting your area of responsibility.
