Senior PHP Developer – Portsmouth (Onsite/Hybrid) – Permanent – Up to £60k (Dependent on Experience)

A growing and successful technology business is seeking an experienced Senior PHP Developer to join its expanding development team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale web applications, customer-facing platforms, APIs, and cloud-based infrastructure within a fast-paced and innovative environment.

As a Senior PHP Developer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and enhance software solutions. You will be involved in solving complex technical challenges, influencing architectural decisions, and helping to establish and enforce best practices across the development team.

About the Role

  • Collaborate on large-scale web applications, customer-facing platforms, APIs, and cloud-based infrastructure
  • Lead technical decision-making and mentor junior developers

Responsibilities

To excel in this position, you will:

  • Design, develop, and refine software solutions with a focus on scalability and performance
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and optimise complex issues across web applications
  • Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD) methodologies
  • Implement code profiling and performance optimisation tools -Drive architectural improvements and best practice adoption within the team

Requirements

  • 5+ years of commercial PHP development experience
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure (preference for Google Cloud Platform – GCP)
  • Relational and non-relational database experience (MySQL and NoSQL technologies)
  • Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in code profiling and performance optimisation tools
  • Deep knowledge of software development best practices and design principles (e.g. SOLID, Design Patterns)
