Senior PHP Developer
📍 Location: 100% Remote (MUST be UK-based)
⏱️ Contract Length: 6 Months
💰 Rate: £400 – £450 / day
🛡️ IR35 Status: Outside IR35
We are partnering with an established business undergoing a major digital transformation. As part of their roadmap, an incoming platform engineering team will be rolling out a brand-new architecture.
Before that can happen, we need an experienced Senior PHP Developer Contractor to step in, take full ownership, and lead a critical legacy cleanup initiative.
This is a standalone, high-accountability role for an engineer who thrives on getting under the hood of legacy systems, untangling complex web structures, and preparing codebases for decommissioning.

⚠️ Non-Negotiable Requirements
Please only apply if you meet the following essential criteria:
- 🇬🇧 UK-Based Only: You MUST be physically based in and hold the right to work in the UK.
- 🧹 Proven Legacy Decommissioning Experience: You must have a track record of auditing, untangling, and safely shutting down legacy platforms.
- 🔍 Tackling Undocumented / Unstructured Code: You must be comfortable working in environments with a total lack of code structure, missing documentation, and hidden dependencies—and bringing order to that chaos.
- ⚙️ Strong Core PHP Mastery: Deep, hands-on experience with native/core PHP (including legacy versions), server-side architecture, and API integration/decoupling.
- 🗺️ Platform Prep & Mapping: Ability to map business logic and dependencies to ensure a seamless transition for incoming platform teams without breaking existing processes.

Senior PHP Developer Key Responsibilities:
- Audit and map out existing legacy PHP applications, identifying key business logic, database dependencies, and external integrations.
- Safely decouple and decommission legacy modules without disrupting live business operations.
- Create concise, high-level technical documentation to guide the incoming platform team.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure a clean, risk-free handover.
