About the Role

Finlay Jude Associates are looking to strengthen a high-performing planning function with the appointment of a Senior Planner on a permanent basis. Based within a Scottish Water office, this role combines hands-on project planning responsibilities with the leadership and development of a local planning team.

You will take ownership of one or more complex project programmes, ensuring delivery teams remain aligned to agreed schedules while proactively managing risk, delay, and change. In addition, you will support the wider planning function by helping to implement and embed industry-leading planning processes and best practice.

Reporting functionally to the Head of Planning, the role manages day-to-day planning activities in close alignment with the local Scottish Water PMO.

  • Develop, maintain, and manage detailed project programmes across the full project lifecycle
  • Ensure programmes accurately reflect scope, resources, constraints, and dependencies
  • Identify risks and opportunities, monitor the critical path, and advise delivery teams on mitigation strategies and programme changes
  • Maintain planning governance and ensure compliance with established planning standards and procedures, including:
    • Project and activity coding structures
    • Baseline development and management
    • Production of programme narratives for client submission
    • Regular schedule quality, integrity, and assurance checks
  • Lead, mentor, and develop junior planners, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment
  • Promote consistency, continuous improvement, and best practice across the planning function

About You

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Significant planning experience within the water industry
  • Proven experience leading and managing a medium-sized planning team
  • Extensive hands-on experience using Primavera P6
  • Strong leadership within collaborative planning environments, including:
    • Programme development from inception through to completion
    • Claims programme development and contractual programme adjustments
    • Clear communication of complex planning information to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet challenging deadlines
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach with a strong team ethic
