Senior Planner
# Senior Planner – Permanent Opportunity
Finlay Jude Associates are seeking to enhance their high-performing planning function with the appointment of a Senior Planner for a permanent position based in a Scottish Water office. This collaborative role merges hands-on project planning with the growth and mentorship of a local planning team.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of one or more complex project programmes, ensuring alignment with agreed schedules while managing risk, delays, and changes proactively.
- Support the broader planning function by implementing and embedding industry-leading planning processes and best practices.
- Report functionally to the Head of Planning, overseeing daily planning activities with close collaboration with the local Scottish Water PMO.
Core Tasks
- Develop, maintain, and manage detailed project programmes throughout the full project lifecycle.
- Ensure programmes accurately reflect scope, resources, constraints, and dependencies.
- Identify risks/opportunities, monitor critical paths, and advise delivery teams on mitigation and programme adjustments.
- Uphold planning governance, ensuring compliance with standards, including:
- Project/activity coding structures
- Baselines, development, and monitoring
- Production of programme narratives for client submission
- Regular schedule assurance checks for quality and integrity
- Lead, mentor, and develop junior planners to nurture a collaborative, high-performing environment.
- Drive consistency and continuous improvement across the planning function.

About You
Essential Requirements
✔ Significant water industry planning experience ✔ Proven ability to lead and manage a medium-sized planning team ✔ Extensive hands-on experience with Primavera P6 (essential) ✔ Strong leadership skills for collaborative planning, including:
- Full-project lifecycle programme development
- Claims programme and contractual programme adjustments
- Clear communication of complex planning data to diverse stakeholders ✔ Ability to work under pressure and meet challenging deadlines ✔ Proactive, solution-focused with a strong team ethic
