Senior Planner
Senior Planner – Water Sector | Hybrid Role
Location: Scottish Water Office (Hybrid) Employment Type: Permanent
About the Role
Finlay Jude Associates is supporting a key client in the water sector to appoint an experienced Senior Planner to strengthen their planning function. This role combines hands-on project planning responsibilities with the leadership of a local planning team.
The successful candidate will:
- Take ownership of one or more project programmes, ensuring delivery in line with agreed schedules while proactively managing delays, risks, and deviations.
- Embed best-practice planning processes across the wider function.
- Mentor and support junior planners, fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Report functionally to the Head of Planning.

Key Responsibilities
Programme & Risk Management
- Develop and maintain detailed project programmes across the full project lifecycle.
- Ensure plans accurately reflect scope, resource requirements, and key dependencies.
- Identify risks and opportunities, monitor the critical path, and advise delivery teams on impacts and mitigation strategies.

Compliance & Data Integrity
- Maintain high planning standards and ensure compliance with internal procedures, including:
- Implementation of project and activity coding structures.
- Baseline development and management.
- Production of programme narratives for client submission.
- Regular schedule quality and integrity reviews.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and develop the local planning team, providing mentoring and technical guidance.
- Support the continuous improvement of planning processes and tools.
About The Candidate
Required Skills & Experience
- Extensive planning experience within the water or wastewater sector.
- Proven track record in managing or mentoring a medium-sized planning team.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Primavera P6.
- Demonstratable leadership in collaborative planning environments, including:
- Programme development from concept through delivery.
- Claims programme preparation and contractual programme adjustments.
- Communicating complex programme information to varied stakeholders.
- Ability to perform under pressure and meet challenging deadlines.
- Proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong team support skills.
