Senior Planner

Senior Planner – Water Business Unit

Location: Split between site at East Hyde (Bedfordshire) and home Hours: 45 hours per week (flexibility available on schedule)

Note: We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship for this role.

About the Role

The Water business unit within Kier’s Natural Resources division is seeking a Senior Planner to join their team and work on large-scale, complex multi-discipline (Civils and MEICA) infrastructure projects that create lasting positive impacts for communities.

As a Senior Planner, you will ensure successful project delivery through:

  • Development of robust planning, programming, and risk management strategies
  • Adherence to IChemE conditions of contract
  • Mentoring of junior planning team members and supporting professional development

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead planning activities and develop comprehensive programmes for complex, multi-discipline projects, starting from first principles.
  • Monitor progress, identify risks and opportunities, and ensure full compliance with contractual requirements, including:
    • Programme submissions
    • Change management protocols
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, contractors, and clients to drive engagement towards delivery success.
  • Provide strategic guidance through scenario-based "what-if" programmes and impact assessments for informed decision-making.
  • Support commercial teams with time-related matters, such as prolongation and extension of time assessments.

What We’re Looking For

This role is ideal for candidates who:

  • Have relevant on-site experience in complex construction projects, preferably in the Water sector, with a focus on multi-discipline (Civils and MEICA) work.
  • Demonstrate successful experience as a Planner, with a deep understanding of planning techniques and first principles.
  • Are proficient in planning software, with strong expertise in Primavera P6 and knowledge of UK construction contracts such as NEC, JCT, or IChemE.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of commercial and contractual matters relating to time, including experience in delay/change entitlement assessments.
  • Exhibit exceptional communication skills, including the ability to engage confidently with clients and stakeholders while influencing project teams and mentoring junior colleagues.
