Senior Planner/Planning Manager (M&E) | Major Infrastructure & HS2 Location: Birmingham Salary: £80,000 - £90,000 + Excellent Benefits
About the Role
Are you an experienced Senior Planner with a background in M&E (Mechanical & Electrical) construction projects, seeking to work on some of Britain’s largest infrastructure programmes? We are recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering contractor delivering major HS2, rail, utilities & infrastructure projects across the UK.
This is a exciting opportunity to join a growing business, where you’ll play a critical role in planning and delivering high-value engineering projects from tender stage through to completion.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for:
- Producing and maintaining robust project programmes
- Monitoring project progress
- Supporting commercial teams with delay analysis and EOT submissions
- Ensuring projects remain on track
You will work closely with:
- Project Managers
- Engineers
- Commercial teams, providing strategic planning support across multiple live projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain cost and resource-loaded programmes
- Produce programme updates and progress reports
- Conduct delay analyses and Extension of Time (EOT) assessments
- Support tender submissions with project planning
- Produce Earned Value Analysis (EVA) with SPI & CPI reporting
- Conduct site visits and programme reviews
- Assist commercial teams in managing project risks and opportunities

About You
We’re seeking a highly experienced Senior Planner with:
- 7-10 years’ planning experience within major infrastructure, rail, utilities, or civil engineering
- Prior experience working as an M&E contractor on large-scale engineering or infrastructure projects
- A relevant background in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (HNC, NVQ or equivalent preferred)
- Strong Primavera P6 expertise, including experience with cost and resource-loaded programmes
- A sound understanding of:
- NEC contracts
- Project controls
- Delay analysis methods
- EOT submissions
- Experience producing planning documentation and managing multiple project programmes
- Proven communication skills, able to collaborate effectively with:
- Commercial teams
- Project managers
- Engineers
- Clients

Degrees or Alternative:
- A bachelor’s degree in:
- Civil engineering
- Mechanical engineering
- Electrical engineering
- Construction management

Desired Skills & Experience
✔ Strong Primavera P6 skills (cost- and resource-loaded programming) ✔ NEC contract familiarity and EOT reporting experience ✔ Delay analysis and project control methodologies expertise ✔ HNC/NVQ in Engineering or Construction (bonus but not essential) ✔ Rail, utilities, or major infrastructure experience preferred
