Senior Planning Engineer

A Senior Planning Engineer is required to support a growing strategic workstream focused on resilience and long-term project delivery. The role involves working closely with Project Managers, multidisciplinary teams, and subcontractors to develop, maintain, and analyse project schedules, ensuring robust planning, forecasting, and performance management across a diverse portfolio of complex projects.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to high-value, nationally significant programmes within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Development & Maintenance

  • Develop, update, and maintain full lifecycle project schedules in Primavera P6, ensuring accuracy, logic integrity, and alignment with project objectives.
  • Maintain programme-level tactical and delivery plans.
  • Generate resource profiles to support efficient deployment of project resources.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Produce and interpret Earned Value Management (EVM) metrics, including CPI, SPI, variance analysis, critical path analysis, and float erosion.
  • Support project forecasting, progress reporting, and scenario planning for change requests.
  • Attend progress meetings to capture updates and provide clear insight into programme performance.

Contract & Compliance

  • Ensure programmes comply with relevant contract requirements (e.g., NEC3/NEC4).
  • Use contract management systems (such as CEMAR or equivalent) to support change control and communication.

Risk & Contingency

  • Develop and maintain risk-adjusted schedules, including P50/P80 underpinning schedules.
  • Support identification, quantification, and mitigation of schedule risks.

Subcontractor Coordination

  • Review and assure subcontractor schedules, ensuring compliance with project standards.
  • Integrate subcontractor programmes into the master schedule and maintain baseline alignment.

Team Support & Mentoring

  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and development support to junior planning team members.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in project planning within engineering, construction, infrastructure, or similar sectors.
  • Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 and recognised planning methodologies.
  • Proficient in cost-loaded and resource-loaded schedules, progress measurement, and performance analytics.
  • Experience working with Fixed Price and/or Target Cost NEC contracts.
  • Experience producing and maintaining risked P50/P80 schedules.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across diverse project teams.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working within regulated or high-hazard environments.
  • Familiarity with Integrated Work Management (IWM) or similar systems.

Working Arrangements

  • Full-time position: 40 hours per week (Monday–Friday).
  • Flexible working arrangements aligned with project needs.
  • Requirement to attend the office a minimum of 3 days per week.
