Senior Planning Manager
Senior Programme Planner / Quantity Surveyor

This critical role involves managing the planning function across projects and tenders, ensuring effective scheduling, monitoring, and control while supporting project delivery to achieve timely and profitable outcomes. Responsibilities include planning medium to high-complexity projects, portfolios, or key sections of major programmes.
About the Role
The Senior Programme Planner will:
- Own all aspects of the planning process, including integrated programme scheduling, critical paths, client programmes, and contractor programme analysis and acceptance.
- Ensure cost loading of programmes at an appropriate level, capturing cost and progress effectively.
- Analyse contractor programmes and provide run rates, schedule risks, and mitigation/opportunity forecasts.
- Lead all aspects of contractual management related to programme events.
- Direct key assignments and strengthen planning performance, ensuring accurate project scheduling and monitoring.
- Support strategic development, due diligence, and sustainable business growth.
- Foster collaboration, share best practices, and build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities
- Own programme planning and contractual progress monitoring across projects and portfolios.
- Coach teams on best planning practices and interpret timings from commercial programmes to ensure scope/volume are aligned.
- Liaise with clients, designers, engineers, and contractors to refine and adapt delivery programmes.
- Identify commercial impacts of contract variations and recommend value-engineering solutions.
- Lead the schedule assurance process to protect programme delivery timelines and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
Requirements
- Degree in a relevant field (construction, planning, infrastructure, surveying, or a comparable discipline).
- 7+ years’ experience in linear infrastructure delivery, including professional membership or equivalent development (e.g., **Associate Member or full membership of a professional body like the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), or equivalent).
- Proven commercial acumen with experience in programme planning and senior stakeholder management.
- Strong linear infrastructure expertise, particularly with highways or complex construction programmes.
- Contractual and sustainability awareness, including carbon reporting/documenting progress and targets.
