Senior Platform Data Engineer - Cardiff

Senior Data Platform Engineer – Hybrid (Cardiff)

At Terminal Velocity, part of the Rocket Science Group, every game is an ecosystem of interconnected systems beyond pure gameplay. Our platform and server teams design, build, and improve the back-end and publishing infrastructure necessary for global game distribution.

In search of a Senior Data Platform Engineer to collaborate on designing, building, and enhancing reliable data systems for both our partners and internal teams.

About the Role

As a Senior Data Platform Engineer, you will:

  • Develop scalable, robust data solutions for games and related platforms, including:
    • Telemetry pipelines
    • Analytics platforms
    • Data warehouse/lakehouse architectures
    • Reporting foundations
    • Backend integrations
  • Contribute to every stage of the data engineering lifecycle, from schema design to observability and validation.
  • Act as a technical bridge between stakeholders and customers, clarifying ambiguous requirements, breaking down complex projects, estimating timelines, and making pragmatic trade-offs.
  • Apply expertise in data modelling, quality assurance, and observability to ensure trustworthy data for both technical and non-technical teams.

While games industry experience is useful, it’s not mandatory. Instead, we prioritise:

  • Strong data engineering fundamentals
  • Subject-matter expertise in areas like pipelines, modelling, and observability
  • Expertise in decision-making under ambiguity
  • Willingness to collaborate across disciplines, from backend to tooling

Here, data engineering is the core focus, but we value adaptability—ensuring that accepts (and thrives) in adjacent fields like backend services, SDK development, or new technologies as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design data pipelines that ingest, process, and retain game data efficiently.
  • Build resilient data models that support monetisation, analytics, and operations.
  • Align with stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable, maintainable data systems.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and usability through testing, validation, and observability.
  • Champion cost-effective infrastructure for cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Diversify skills across technical areas (infrastructure, backend, tooling) when business needs dictate.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
