Senior Platform Engineer

Senior Platform Engineer – Leeds (Hybrid)

This is a permanent role, working two days in the office and three days remotely each week.

This role sits within our central Cloud Platform team, supporting a portfolio of applications built on Google Cloud and open-source technologies. You’ll play a key part in designing and delivering cutting-edge GCP solutions while championing best practices across:

  • Security
  • Automation
  • Observability

Join a hands-on team where you can make immediate impact from day one.

We’re currently building a strong talent pipeline for this position. While this isn’t an immediate vacancy, we’re eager to connect with senior engineers for future opportunities as the team scales.


About the Role

We seek platform engineers with a product mindset—not direction takers, but builders shaping the infrastructure as a self-sustaining service. Your focus:

  • Reducing manual effort for engineers
  • Building self-service "golden paths" for seamless deployments
  • Enabling teams to ship safely, quickly, and with confidence

Responsibilities

Design and maintain scalable, automated platform capabilities, including:

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules
  • Standardised GitOps pipelines for faster developer delivery

Contribute to architecture, scaling, and estate management of a growing enterprise GCP portfolio, ensuring:

  • Resilience under load
  • High performance at scale

  • Implement Prometheus, Grafana, and Cloud Operations Suite
  • Maximise uptime and reduce mean time to repair

Collaborate with security teams to embed "shift-left" practices:

  • Integrate IAM, networking controls, and governance seamlessly into engineer workflows

Support and mentor team engineers by:

  • Participating in code reviews
  • Contributing to clear documentation
  • Fostering a high-trust, collaborative environment

Requirements

Essential

  • Proven GCP expertise: Hands-on experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining enterprise-scale Google Cloud solutions
  • Infrastructure automation: Proficiency with Terraform and CI/CD systems (e.g., GitHub Actions, Cloud Build, ArgoCD)
  • Production-grade workloads: Managing containerised, microservices-based environments
  • Observability-driven reliability: Using tools (e.g., Prometheus) for performance, logging, and monitoring analysis
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Strong communicator skilled in mentoring engineers and working with multidisciplinary teams

Desirable

  • GCP certifications: Cloud Architect, Cloud Security Engineer, Cloud DevOps Engineer
  • Advanced networking skills: Experience with Shared VPCs, Private Service Connect, or interconnects
  • Cost optimisation: Knowledge of tracking, analysing, and optimising cloud spend in engineering teams
  • API management: Familiarity with Apigee and securing routing, traffic control, OAuth, and OpenID Connect
