Description
Overview
Our client is seeking experienced Platform Engineers / Infrastructure Software Developer
The team requires engineers who can:
- Analyze complex existing codebases
- Understand how distributed systems operate at enterprise scale
- Improve software architecture and maintainability
- Deliver automation solutions
- Recommend long-term engineering improvements rather than tactical fixes
This is a highly technical role requiring a blend of:
- Software engineering
- Linux systems engineering
- Infrastructure automation
- Platform engineering
Key Responsibilities
Software Development & Modernization
- Modernize and refactor internally developed infrastructure tooling
- Analyze existing code and remediate identified issues
- Improve maintainability, scalability, and performance of legacy applications
- Drive engineering best practices across platform development
Infrastructure Automation
- Build automation solutions across virtualization and compute environments
- Develop tooling to support platform operations and lifecycle management
- Improve efficiency through automation and orchestration
Platform Engineering
- Support engineering initiatives across:
- Virtualization platforms
- Compute infrastructure
- Server hardware management
- Contribute to enterprise-scale platform improvements
CI/CD & DevOps
- Improve existing deployment pipelines
- Support modern software delivery practices
- Drive adoption of automation and engineering standards
Technical Problem Solving
- Investigate root causes rather than implementing tactical fixes
- Recommend architectural improvements
- Contribute to long-term platform strategy

Required Skills
Software Engineering
Must have strong experience with:
- Python
- Perl
- Object-oriented programming
- Code refactoring
- Software design principles
Candidates must be comfortable:
- Reading large and complex codebases
- Understanding code written by others
- Identifying technical debt
- Improving existing applications
Linux & Systems Engineering
Strong understanding of:
- Linux operating systems
- Linux development environments
- Distributed systems
- Threads and processes
- Systems performance
- Infrastructure architecture
Must understand how software interacts with underlying infrastructure.
Infrastructure & Networking
Working knowledge of:
- Storage technologies
- Network protocols
- Enterprise server infrastructure
- Compute environments
DevOps & Automation
Experience with:
- Jenkins
- GitHub
- CI/CD pipelines
- Source code management
- Automated testing
Nice to Have
Particularly attractive experience includes:
- VMware automation
- VMware APIs
- vSphere environments
- Virtualization engineering
- Enterprise hardware engineering
- Large-scale data centre environments
