Main Purpose of the Role & Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Platform Engineer (Senior Associate) at Kainos, you’ll lead the design of significant components of a modern digital service platform, including automation, build, deployment, and support. This is a fast-paced environment where you’ll be trusted to make sound, reasoned decisions while learning about emerging technologies alongside talented colleagues.
Your Key Responsibilities Include:

Collaborating with cross-functional teams – Work with engineering, testing, consulting, product management, and security teams to build, test, and deploy software of the highest quality.

Technology for positive impact – Ensure the latest technologies are applied effectively to deliver maximum user and business benefits. Align with industry standards and best practices.

Putting people first – Support colleagues and foster an inclusive DevOps culture through every action.

Live Operations Support – Once services are live, ensure they remain available, secure, and performant as users engage with them. Continuously refine and enhance these services.

Minimum (Essential) Requirements
- Proven team skills – Ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment is crucial.
- Strong communication – Excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to articulate technical issues clearly, including to non-technical stakeholders.
Technical Expertise Required:
- Configuration management, infrastructure provisioning & automation tools
- Fluency in at least one of:
- PowerShell
- Bash
- Python
- Ruby
- Go
- Groovy
- Eliminating configuration management and tooling (individual languages/certifications provided above, but expertise across both is expected)
Experience & Experience Mandatory:
- Designing, building, testing, and supporting significant components within a production-based modern digital service platform.
- Designing scalable, resilient, efficient, secure, and cost-effective systems that minimize vendor lock-in.
- Collaborative technical leadership – Ability to contribute to architecture, estimation, product planning, technical requirements, and MVP advocacy in team-based decision-making.
- Modern Continuous Delivery Implementation – Establishing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines for production releases.
- Industry best practices – Apply standards in security, elasticity, and performance across infrastructure and application components.
- AWS Cloud Expertise – Knowledge of solving business challenges with AWS public cloud platforms.
- Advanced orchestration – Proficiency in configuration management, infrastructure provisioning, and container orchestration for problem-solving.
- Version control – Experience with Git and modern version control systems.
- Troubleshooting expertise – Ability to debug complex issues across multiple systems, services, and tools.
- Security clearance – Active Security Clearance is required and mandatory.

Desirable (and Strengthened by)
- Third-level qualification (or equivalent) – Ideal in a related discipline.
- Public Cloud Certification – Mid-level credential from AWS or Azure.
- Knowledge sharing – Active contribution in team knowledge recall and communication with non-technical stakeholders.
- Cloud-optimized experience – Hands-on experience with cloud-native SaaS and PaaS technologies.
- Management & Mentorship – Effectiveness in mentoring, coaching, and supporting junior members within a technical context.
