The team you’ll join
We are looking for a talented, creative, and positive team player to join our highly skilled platform engineering team and play a key role in shaping and evolving our infrastructure and internal tooling. The platform engineering team at Runna is responsible for designing and maintaining scalable, secure infrastructure and building the internal tooling that empowers Runna engineers to move quickly and efficiently. You’ll work closely with engineering and product teams to ensure our platform is robust, efficient, and easy to work with; enabling a seamless developer experience.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Platform Engineer, you will help drive best practices in cloud architecture, automation, reliability, and developer efficiency. You will collaborate with your team to design and implement robust solutions that enable the seamless deployment and operation of the #1 running app in the world, pioneering the way that people train and use fitness apps.
As a Platform Engineer, Your Role Will Include
- Architect, build, and maintain a scalable, secure, and reliable cloud platform to support the needs of our rapidly growing company.
- Build and maintain internal tooling to improve developer experience and enable engineering teams to operate efficiently.
- Design and implement infrastructure as code (IaC) to manage our cloud resources efficiently.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to ensure smooth and automated deployments for both infrastructure and applications.
- Guide and collaborate with our product engineering teams, helping them design secure, scalable solutions that meet the needs of our fast-growing user base.
- Collaborate with product engineering to ensure platform capabilities meet the evolving needs of Runna’s applications and services.
- Improve observability by implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to enhance system reliability and reduce potential downtime.
- Drive best practices in incident response, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery to ensure platform resilience.
- Automate and streamline operational processes to improve developer productivity and system reliability.
- Continuously evaluate and adopt new technologies and tools to enhance the platform’s capabilities and performance.

What You’ll Bring To The Team

Your Key Experience
- 4+ years in a Platform Engineering, SRE, or DevOps role
- 4+ years working with AWS in production environments
- Experience with scalable cloud infrastructure and modern deployment strategies
Your Key Skills
- Strong experience designing and implementing cloud-based infrastructure within AWS.
- Applied experience with Serverless architecture and designing event-driven systems, including working with services like EventBridge, SNS, SQS, and Kafka.
- Solid understanding of networking, security best practices, and identity management within AWS.
- Proficiency with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CDK or CloudFormation.
- Strong working knowledge of Docker and containerisation for building, running, and shipping containerised applications.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or similar)
- Strong understanding of observability, monitoring, tracing, and alerting (e.g. CloudWatch, DataDog, Prometheus).
- Ability to design and implement reliable and scalable deployment strategies for both infrastructure and applications
- Experience with building internal tooling to improve developer experience and efficiency
- A pragmatic mindset, with excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Able to work within a highly-skilled engineering team in a fast-paced, iterative environment
- Enthusiasm for our ways of working, which include:
- Iterative development, continuous deployment, and automation-first approaches
- Knowledge sharing, collaborative design, and mentoring
- Shared code ownership & cross-functional teams

Bonus Points If You Have
- Have been involved with Data Warehouse technologies (e.g. Snowflake, DataBricks)
- Have hands-on experience with container orchestration tools (e.g. ECS, Kubernetes)
- Have a strong interest in health/fitness technologies
Salary And Benefits
We’re offering a salary of £92,500-£103,000 per year, depending on experience, plus participation in Strava's long-term incentive (stock) programs. Overview of our benefits is below: We’re also committed to continually evolving our benefits to support you as we grow.

Our Interview Process
Our aim is to keep the interview process as straightforward and enjoyable as possible, and will consist of the following stages:
- Introductory chat (25-minute video call)
- 1.5 hour technical interview
- General questions (15 minutes)
- System design (45 minutes)
- Leet code (30 minutes)
- Meet the team and in-person chat (in-person chat with founder(s), rest of the team and technical discussion)

Compensation Range: £85K - £95K
