Senior Platform Engineer
Driftrock is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to take ownership of the infrastructure and security that empowers our engineering teams to ship fast, safely, and at scale as more of the world’s biggest car brands onboard.
Quick Facts
- Team: Engineering
- Reports to: Head of Engineering
- Location: Remote (UK or abroad, with 2–3+ hours of daily UK overlap)
- Contract: Full-time, permanent
- Salary: £65,000–£85,000 + share options
- Start Date: ASAP
Why This Role Exists
Driftrock operates entirely on Google Cloud, with a rapidly growing product trusted by global automotive marketing leaders. To meet scale, we’re investing in a dedicated platform and security owner—so your engineering squads can keep innovating with robust, reliable foundations.
You’ll define, shape, and maintain the platform’s security, performance, and developer experience—while growing this function alongside the company.
- Our platform consists of multi-service Elixir applications integrated via APIs, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kubernetes (GKE).
- Infrastructure is managed via Terraform, CI/CD runs on self-hosted Buildkite, and job scheduling uses Oban.
- We embrace Extreme Programming, test-driven development, testing everything in production multiple times daily, and a observerability-first mindset.
What You’ll Own (Key milestones in your first 90 days)
By Day 30: You’ve mapped the current infrastructure, security posture, and developer workflows, pinpointing critical risks and opportunities.
By Day 60: Shipped your first improvements and aligned on a prioritised platform roadmap with the engineering team.
By Day 90:
- Delivering against the roadmap with early wins in security, reliability, or developer experience.
- Demonstrating clear ownership of the platform.
Your Responsibilities
Cloud & Infrastructure Ownership
- Shape, secure, and scale Google Cloud infrastructure so product teams ship confidently.
- Increase IaC coverage: Ensure all changes are repeatable, auditable, and safe via Terraform.
- 環境分離 & 運維自動化: Maintain clean separation of dev/stage/prod, managed via IaC.
- Enhance identity/access controls (SSO, least-privilege policies) and secrets management (totally replacing/extending current setup).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Security & Compliance
- Maintain ISO 27001 certification and prepare for client security audits (leadership, not just box-ticking).
- Manage TLS for medium-size car brands’ customers (where is this handled? Cert management, DNS cadence).
Kubernetes & Platform Operations
- End-to-end responsibility for GKE clusters: keep them current, reliable, and producer-friendly (e.g., workload optimisations).
CI/CD & Developer Tooling
- Improve self-hosted Buildkite pipelines, local toolchains (CI environments, debugger setup) to speed up developers.
- Setup contract testing between microservices along with component tests.
- zerotouch operator for tech-ex internal service.
Reliability & Observability
- Steady state upgrades, patching, DNS, certs – everything current with minimal downtime.
- Visualise cost, performance, reliability: Build dashboards showing we have a handle on spend and uptime metrics.
Requirements
Must Have
- Deep Google Cloud experience: running production workloads, GKE ops & workload patterns (e.g. “We manage DB VMs server, don’t tell us how to buy Cloud SQL”).
- Kubernetes in production: Nammy’s intent-backed Operators maybe? Beyond just standard Debian/Fedora stack-hacking.
- Terraform fluency: Write good IaC that your team can rely on, “isn’t optional plumbing” attitude.
- Security fundamentals: IAM roles/Principal of Least Privilege, secrets management, potential perimeter firewall rules, rather than just “you use Google’s auto control planes, it’s fine”.
- CI/CD ownership: Improve pipelines, training, engineering’s obsession-free feedback loops.
- Willing to engage with us at the code level: We’ll ask you to write the FastAPI wrapper for an Elixir CashFlow dashboard or let Plumsort annotate the
run_true!compatibility as we introduce new job queues.
Nice to Have
- Elixir/Ruby hands-on exposure. ISO 27001 / SOC 2 experience. Speak RelOps like you grew it. Radge SLAs, browning fire drills, structured retrospectives over “check the Box Still Sitting On Was 4 Hours This Week”. Tax-effect from an infinite cost-grid. Budgets? Zero (premise that “we’re buying 1TB of bandwidth and failover-region’s CDF”) stealing. Past team growing, mentoring, rotating, maybe even hosting open.
Why Driftrock
We’re the world’s fastest-growing marketing software platform for automotive and electric mobility, trusted by BMW, Volvo, Mercedes, Octopus etc.
