About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Population Health Scientist / Senior Epidemiologist to join our Science team and help unlock the full potential of this extraordinary dataset.
This is a critical new role, designed to: ✔ Broaden the audience for Our Future Health data among researchers, charities, population health professionals, health planners, and policymakers.
✔ Produce population health insights that demonstrate the capabilities of the dataset – with a focus on health inequalities, determinantsof health, and equitable access to care.
✔ Contribute to applying a common data model for researchers to access and analyse The Future Health data.
The successful candidate will lead scientific analyses that: ✅ Transform insights from the UK’s most valuable health dataset into actionable recommendations. ✅ Support evidence-based policymaking in healthcare, public health, and societal decision-making. ✅ Drive strategic knowledge-sharing across academic, NHS, and wider public sectors.
Responsibilities
Working closely with the Director of Population Health Insights and colleagues across Science, Data, and Product teams, your key contributions will include:

Leading/Delivering Population Health Analyses
- Analysing large-scale, real-world health data to uncover meaningful patterns, inequalities, or public health risks.

Generating Policy-Relevant Insights
- Translating epidemiological findings into actionable recommendations on:
- Disease prevention strategies
- Early detection interventions
- Mitigating health inequalities
- The impact of biosocial and environmental determinants of health.

Innovative Data Product Development
- Collaborating to create science-driven tools (e.g., analysis notebooks, datasets, APIs) that researchers can use to explore data features.

- Working to refine and implement a common data access standard for prospective research users.

Requirements
We’re looking for a motivated epidemiologist or statistician who thrives at the intersection of data-driven discovery and public impact. Ideal candidates will have:
Essential

PhD (or equivalent) in epidemiology, population health, medical statistics, biostatistics, or related fields (e.g., social epidemiology, health sciences at post-doc level).

Two+ years’ applied research experience, including:
- Analysis of large-scale health datasets (preferably longitudinal or population-based).
- Familiarity with clinical cohort studies, registries, or forensic datasets.

Strong epidemiological and statistical skills including:
- Advanced statistical modelling techniques (e.g., logistic regression, survival analysis, spatial analysis).
- Real-world methodological experience assessing:
- Health inequalities (e.g., SOC,ethnicity, geography, socio-economic gradients).
- Longitudinal data to track trajectories of disease risk.
- Determinants of health (e.g., lifestyle, environment, healthcare systems).

Technical programming expertise:
- R (with
tidyr,dplyr,brms``, **survival`). - Python (preferably with
pandas,numpy,statsmodels, orscikit-learn). - Stata (using

- Proven track record of explaining complex scientific findings to non-specialists (e.g., policymakers, general audiences).
