Based in the Midlands, ideally Wolverhampton, the Senior Portfolio Manager for Fixed Income will play a central role in researching, building and managing a range of high-quality fixed income funds. Reporting to the Head of Fixed Income, the postholder will help deliver strong risk adjusted returns for Partner Funds by managing designated mandates and supporting future product development. The role sits within an active, collaborative investment team where responsible investment, transparency and value for money guide every decision.
This role is a certified role under the Senior Manager’s Certification Regime and will be subject to assessments in Fitness and Propriety and any other regulatory requirements.
What you’ll be doing:
- Manage designated sub funds and investment mandates, ensuring portfolios comply with all regulatory, investment and risk parameters
- Ensure all investment targets for Partner Funds are clearly documented and met
- Work closely with Partner Funds to understand priorities and needs for fixed income products
- Support the Head of Fixed Income with the development and launch of future fixed income funds
- Assist with the preparation of marketing and presentation materials
- Build strong relationships with external managers and index providers and carry out detailed research on fixed income products and market trends
- Review and attribute fund performance and prepare monthly and quarterly reports within agreed timelines
- Deputise for the Head of Fixed Income when required
- Support improvements to existing products and enhancements to investment systems
- Promote a high performing, collaborative, research based and responsible investment culture
- Manage sub funds and mandates in a way that delivers value for money while identifying opportunities to improve risk adjusted returns after charges
- Ensure all portfolios are managed within the Prospectus, IMA and internal policies and in line with the Risk and Compliance Framework
- Represent LGPS Central professionally with Partner Funds, external managers, regulators and stakeholders
- When requested, implement the creation, retender or consolidation of external mandates
- Follow the full Manager of Managers Process for selection, appointment, monitoring, reporting, retendering and transitions

About Us
LGPS Central (LGPSC) Ltd is the FCA regulated asset manager for fourteen local authority pension funds across the Midlands. LGPSC is jointly owned on an equal shares basis by those Partner Fund, and it is responsible for managing £100bn+ of their assets. It is one of six Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) asset pools in the UK.

Requirements
- Experience in trading and managing fixed income portfolios
- Extensive experience of collaborative investment decision making at a senior level, ideally in an FCA regulated environment
- Strong technical knowledge of fixed income asset classes including with a particular focus on Investment Grade Credit, however knowledge of High Yield, CoCos, Loans and Emerging Market Debt also beneficial
- Experience documenting investment rationale, portfolio construction, and monitoring and reporting
- Confident and collaborative decision maker within an FCA regulated environment
- Strong analytical skills developed through asset management or investment banking roles
- Ability to evaluate investment performance and risk objectively
- Strong communication skills and relationship building capability
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work accurately under time pressure
- Team player able to work effectively across functions
- Proficient in Bloomberg or similar financial data systems
- Advanced Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills
- Can evaluate performance and risk of investment portfolios objectively.
- Experience of management of others and personal development within high performing investment teams.
- High degree of professional ethics, integrity and gravitas.
- Excellent judgement and analytical skills.
- Demonstrates first class interpersonal, people management and communication skills.
- A strong track record in understanding and articulating manager strategies.
- Experience across different segments of the equity landscape.
- Confidence in dealing with external managers and the capability of building strong relationships with them.

Qualifications:
- CFA or equivalent qualification/ relevant investment experience.
- Preferably degree level or equivalent in relevant discipline.
- Has or can meet all the requirements of being an FCA approved person.
