Due to continued growth, we are currently recruiting for a Senior Pound Operative to provide an essential interface for our operation. The successful candidate will be able to communicate with the general public in a helpful and professional manner while carrying out operational tasks accurately, safely and efficiently.

Hours: 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Sunday (including Bank Holidays). Flexibility is essential for this role.

Please note: Applicants must hold a full UK manual driving licence.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Oversee daily pound operations and allocate workloads to drivers.
  • Ensure the efficient utilisation of HGV HIAB-enabled trucks and associated equipment.
  • Monitor operational performance and escalate issues affecting service delivery.
  • Act as the first point of contact for operational queries within the pound.
  • Support managers in implementing operational procedures and service improvements.
  • Ensure all vehicles entering and leaving the pound are accurately recorded and processed.
  • Supervise the safe operation of HGV HIAB-enabled removal vehicles.
  • Ensure pre-use vehicle inspections are completed and any defects are reported promptly.
  • Coordinate loading, unloading, lifting and transportation activities.
  • Ensure all lifting operations comply with relevant legislation and company procedures.
  • Monitor vehicle availability and support fleet deployment planning and rota management.
  • Liaise with maintenance providers to minimise vehicle downtime.
  • Maintain a safe, organised and efficient vehicle pound environment.
  • Ensure the correct storage and positioning of impounded vehicles.
  • Monitor yard capacity and optimise vehicle placement.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the pound facilities, equipment and storage areas.
  • Ensure security measures are maintained at all times.
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture throughout the operation.
  • Carry out dynamic risk assessments and ensure safe systems of work are followed.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, LOLER regulations and company policies.
  • Report and investigate accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
  • Monitor the use of PPE and promote safe working practices.
  • Support site audits and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate operational records and documentation.
  • Complete reports, inspections and operational paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Support internal audits and compliance checks.
  • Assist with the management of pound inventories and equipment records.

  • Experience working within vehicle pound, logistics, transport, fleet, vehicle recovery or yard operations.
  • Previous experience supervising operational staff.
  • Knowledge of vehicle handling and storage procedures.
  • An understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a transport or logistics environment.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • The ability to prioritise workloads and perform well under pressure.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • A full UK manual driving licence.
