Senior Practitioner – Children, Young People, Care & Protection (CWD Specialist Intervention Team)
About The Job
- Salary: £42,839 - £46,142 per year, plus £963 essential car allowance, plus £5,500 market supplement allowance
- Hours: 37 hours per week
- Contract: Permanent
Our CWD Specialist Intervention Team focuses on supporting children and young people with mental ill health, emotional wellbeing issues, and diagnosed learning difficulties such as Autism/ADHD, as well as associated behaviours. We maintain small caseloads and engage intensively with families, professionals, and colleagues within the Children & Adolescent Mental Health (CAMH) service.
We strive for passionate, innovative, and creative approaches to support these young people who often disengage from education. Our work closely includes educating and ensuring appropriate Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) and the right educational placement, when required.
As a Senior Practitioner, you will hold responsibility for managing complex cases, providing assessment, care management, and other relevant social work services to some of the most susceptible and at-risk children and families here in Luton.
Under supervision of your Team Manager, you will use a wide range of professional skills and experience to:
- Provide support and guidance to team members
- Help manage practice effectively

About You
You are an experienced social worker, registered with Social Work England, possessing a DipSW, CSS, CQSW or equivalent qualification.
You exhibit a passionate commitment to high-quality, child-centred practice, supporting collaborative practice improvement.

Key Requirements
- Substantial post-qualifying experience in child and family social work
- Experience working with children who have learning difficulties and mental health conditions
- Strong knowledge of current legislation, statutory guidance, and best social care practices
- Adept at managing complex and competing demands efficiently
- Extensive experience in coaching, mentoring, and practice teaching
- Commitment to continuous professional development—focusing on enhancing your skills and abilities, as well as mentoring others

This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, meaning:
