Senior Practitioner - Statutory Specialist Service
Senior Practitioner (Sensory Impairment Rehabilitation Service) – Permanent
Grade D: £45,091 – £53,460
Consultation grade (subject to formal evaluation under the Equal Pay Programme) Working hours: 36.5 hours per week
About the Role
Are you an experienced practitioner with a passion for high-quality, citizen-focused work? Do you want to play a key role in supporting adults in Birmingham who experience complex circumstances, including sensory impairment?
We are seeking a confident and motivated Senior Practitioner to join our Specialist Services team, aligned to the Sensory Impairment Rehabilitation Service. This is an exciting opportunity to support the Visual Impairment Rehabilitation and Hearing Impairment services, helping to lead practice, support staff, and improve outcomes for citizens across Birmingham.
Key Responsibilities

Provide professional leadership and supervision to staff in a designated area, including:
- Supporting performance, appraisal, and attendance management
- Ensuring high-quality practice and effective service delivery
- Leading towards positive outcomes for adults and their carers

Work with adults presenting multiple and complex needs, ensuring practice aligns with:
- Care Act 2014
- Mental Capacity Act 2005
- Safeguarding procedures and other relevant legislation

Ensure services are joined-up, inclusive, and responsive, collaborating with:
- Colleagues
- Partners
- Other agencies
- Diverse communities across Birmingham

About You
We are looking for a candidate with:
Professional & Leadership Skills
✔ Sound professional knowledge of sensory impairment rehabilitation ✔ Strong leadership abilities to guide practice and service improvement ✔ Evidence of a commitment to enhancing adult outcomes ✔ Confidence in:
- Supporting staff development
- Managing complex risk scenarios
- Effective safeguarding practice
- Collaborative partnership working
Key Attributes
✔ Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to:
- Work independently and make confident complex decisions
