Senior Registered Nurse – Primary Care (Forth Valley Prisons)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a primary care senior registered nurse in one of our Forth Valley Prisons, primarily based at HMP Polmont, with potential for development and service transfers elsewhere. Our ethos focuses on delivering trauma-informed, person-centred and safe, effective care to our patients.

The team is currently embracing new, exciting opportunities within primary care nursing. As the post holder, you will:
- Deliver high-quality care and treatment in this unique environment, collaborating with SPS (Scottish Prison Service) and wider agencies.
- Be a vital part of a holistic service, significantly contributing to the healthcare needs, outcomes, and experiences of a complex and vulnerable population.
- Develop and enhance your clinical skills and knowledge, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, workplace autonomy, and high-level clinical decision-making.
- Play an active role in shaping a modern, innovative healthcare service.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide primary care nursing in a custodial setting, ensuring trauma-informed and person-centred care.
- Work collaboratively with prison staff, community agencies, and external healthcare providers.
- Maintain effective communication and liaison with prisoners, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in service improvement initiatives and research opportunities.
- All posts are subject to rotation; willingness and ability to travel across the service area is essential.
Person Specifications
- Must be a first-level registered nurse with a commitment to career progression.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Proven ability to work autonomously with strong clinical decision-making.
- Passion for innovative and patient-focused healthcare.
About the Role
- Location: Primarily HMP Polmont, with potential for role rotation.
- Reporting: To the Primary Care Team Leader (Claire Gallagher).
- Working Hours: As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours. Part-time hours will be adjusted proportionally, though the hourly rate will increase to maintain pay levels.
