Senior / Principal Battery Energy Storage Engineer

Technical Advisory (Energy Systems, UK & Ireland)

A newly established department within Energy Systems, UK & Ireland, creating a powerhouse of technical expertise by combining existing strengths with growth ambitions and heightened service quality standards.

The department integrates Projects, Engineering, and Integrity with a focus on strengthening delivery and technological excellence—optimising customer impact across the entire Energy Systems realm.


Project Advisory Section

Responsible for providing consultancy throughout the full project lifecycle, delivering key services:

  • CAPEX Services: Owners Engineering
  • Operational Services:
    • Life management plans
    • Repowering assessments
    • Decommissioning studies
    • inspections

The Project Advisory Section seeks to expand and evolve these services—aligning with market trends, emerging opportunities, and technological advancements. Success relies on a strong commercial mindset, strong cross-team collaboration, and active participation with other departments to enhance offerings and strengthen market share.

Teams in Project Advisory manage various project phases while maintaining an expectation to collaborate internally (within and beyond the section)—resources are shared flexibly to ensure performance. These teams are multi-technology, comprising professionals from legacy renewables teams, delivering expertise across diverse energy solutions.

What You’d Be Doing

Project Advisory Engineers work across diverse projects and technologies, primarily solar PV, Battery Energy Storage (BESS), and wind—though other sectors may also be involved.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead customer engagement—identifying challenges, shaping technical solutions, and securing buy-in.
  • Collaborate with expert teams to implement solutions, which may include:
    • Conducting technical studies (risk analysis, feasibility, evaluations)
    • Supporting on-site construction and commissioning projects
    • Partnering during all project lifecycle phases, sometimes spanning multi-technologies and regional locations
  • Represent customers as technical owners, liaising with stakeholders.

  • Project Management: Oversee larger project bids and execution.
  • Technical Leadership: Primary deliverables while contributing expertise to broader, multi-layered projects.
  • Mentorship: Train and coach junior team members to develop best practices.
  • Travel: Frequent customer-facing travel in UK & Ireland, with the occasional global trip for site visits and stakeholder meetings.
