Senior / Principal Civil Design Engineer - Design-Led Consultancy

Location: London

Salary: £45,000 - £65,000 (DOE) + Benefits

About the Role

Are you an experienced Civil Engineer looking to work on high-quality, architecturally ambitious projects, while taking on greater responsibility in delivery and team development?

A highly respected and award-winning civil & structural engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior / Principal Civil Design Engineer into its central London office. With around 170 employees across a number of UK offices, the business combines national capability with a collaborative, design-focused culture at team level.

The Opportunity

This consultancy is recognised for its work on complex, design-led building projects, collaborating with leading architects to deliver innovative and sustainable engineering solutions.

You'll be working on a wide range of schemes including:

  • High-end residential and mixed-use developments
  • Heritage and refurbishment projects
  • Commercial and education buildings
  • Public realm and urban regeneration schemes

The Role

As a Senior / Principal Civil Engineer, you'll play a key role in both technical delivery and project leadership.

Responsibilities Will Include

  • Leading the design of drainage, site development and external works packages
  • Developing SuDS strategies and sustainable infrastructure solutions
  • Supporting projects from concept through to construction delivery
  • Working closely with architects to develop innovative and buildable solutions
  • Reviewing and overseeing technical outputs
  • Mentoring and supporting junior engineers
  • Managing client relationships and coordinating project delivery

What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience in civil engineering design, particularly within development or building-focused projects
  • Experience in drainage, levels and external works design
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD / Civil 3D
  • Experience working within a consultancy environment
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

For Principal-Level Candidates

  • Experience leading projects and managing delivery
  • Ability to review and oversee technical design
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers
  • Commercial awareness and contribution to business growth
