Senior / Principal DevOps Engineer

Hays are now looking for a Senior / Principal DevOps & CloudOps Engineer for one of our local retail clients:

£700 - £800 p/d Inside IR35 (depending on level)
3 days p/w in the office, rest is WFH
Location is Bury

We are looking for a Senior or Principal DevOps & CloudOps Engineer to design, build, and evolve our enterprise CI/CD and cloud infrastructure frameworks. Working closely with Engineering, Product, QA, Security, and Reliability teams, you will help deliver secure, scalable, automated, and high-performing cloud services while enabling development teams to deploy with greater speed and autonomy.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design, build, and continuously improve enterprise CI/CD pipelines and DevOps frameworks.
  • Select and implement the right tools, processes, and automation to streamline software delivery.
  • Drive adoption of DevOps best practices across engineering teams and onboard products onto shared platforms.
  • Build and maintain secure, scalable, and high-performing cloud infrastructure in AWS.
  • Implement observability, monitoring, and operational insights across multiple environments.
  • Improve deployment processes, reduce friction, and enable self-service capabilities for development teams.
  • Support cloud and infrastructure incident response, ensuring rapid service restoration.
  • Develop solutions that provide visibility into cloud costs, resource utilisation, and FinOps metrics.
  • Maintain infrastructure currency, supporting upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Define and manage the roadmap for pipeline enhancements, platform capabilities, and technology innovation.

What We're Looking For

  • Deep expertise in DevOps, Cloud Operations, and FinOps principles.
  • Strong experience designing and managing AWS-based cloud environments.
  • Proven experience building Infrastructure as Code solutions using tools such as Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines from scratch, ideally using GitHub.
  • Experience supporting large-scale engineering organisations, including monorepos and parallel deployment models.
  • Knowledge of configuration, service, and release management practices with a strong focus on automation.
  • Experience with containerisation and workload orchestration technologies.
  • Scripting and programming experience with tools such as Python and Bash.
  • Strong understanding of observability, reliability, and operational best practices.
  • Knowledge of information security principles and experience embedding security throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
