The Opportunity
As a Senior or Principal Electrical Building Services Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality outcomes for our clients, working closely with Arup’s project leadership to guide technical direction and oversee project delivery. Your electrical engineering expertise will support both the development of innovative design solutions and the growth of the wider Electrical team. You’ll work with advanced digital tools from Microsoft and Autodesk, and when existing tools fall short, you’ll help shape new digital approaches that enhance our design process and client services. Day to day, you’ll collaborate within project groups and across global networks, benefiting from shared knowledge and research while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
In this role, strong communication skills are essential as you maintain relationships with clients, project teams, and the wider Arup community, clearly reporting progress, risks, and mitigation strategies. You’ll support project managers in controlling budgets, timelines, quality, and safety, ensuring delivery aligns with programme objectives. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading multidisciplinary design teams from inception to completion
- Coordinating holistic design solutions
- Managing design programmes
- Chairing internal and external meetings
- Utilising BIM for coordination
- Staying current with legislation and regulations
- Working with the Project Director to ensure commercial success

Is this role right for you?
We are seeking candidates who:
- Are a Chartered Engineer (or close to Chartership via IET or CIBSE) with a strong background in electrical building services design.
- Have proven experience managing and delivering UK multi-disciplinary design projects within a consultancy environment; values quality and enjoys delivering.
- Are proficient in BIM and digital design tools; experience with Revit MEP is highly desirable.
- Have strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with clients.
- Can demonstrate strong commercial awareness and a solid track record of delivering high-quality, technically excellent electrical designs and innovative solutions in the built environment.
