The Opportunity
Are you a Chartered/Incorporated Electrical Engineer ready to lead complex, sustainable solutions for the urgent challenges facing our communities?
The UK Water sector is undergoing a massive AMP cycle—a period of unprecedented investment and innovation. At Stantec, we're at the forefront, designing and delivering essential infrastructure that is more efficient, resilient, and environmentally conscious than ever before. This is your chance to step into a Senior Principal Engineer role and make a tangible difference, based out of our offices London, Reading, High Wycombe, Southampton & Brighton.
Imagine: You're not just designing EICA systems; you're building the future. You will lead the technical direction on high-impact projects, guiding them from initial concept through to detailed design. This is a high-visibility leadership position with the potential opportunity to take on regional leadership of the discipline. Working alongside Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams, you will:
Pioneer EICA design services for critical Water Business projects across the South East & South Central regions. Mentor the next generation of engineers, acting as a technical leader and subject matter expert. Drive crucial collaborative design discussions, from HAZOPs to technical workshops, ensuring positive outcomes for our clients and the community. Grow Stantec's reputation, building key relationships with clients and stakeholders.
About You
You will be educated to degree level, with a wealth of experience in Electrical Engineering.
Your deep experience in technical specifications, control philosophies, Single Line Diagrams, and technical reporting will be essential as you tackle diverse projects—from optioneering and feasibility studies to detailed design. Experience in Water, Energy, or Infrastructure is highly valuable, but your leadership and technical expertise are what we truly seek.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
