Senior/ Principal Engineer - Electrical Building Services (Contract)
Location: London, Warwick, Manchester, Derby
At BakerHicks, our Electrical Services team works with clients across multiple sectors, delivering large and complex projects which require highly resilient power supplies. Specialising in heavily-regulated industries where quality and safety are key, we’re experienced in all aspects of the project lifecycle from definition and feasibility to detailed design and site monitoring.
We are actively recruiting across this capability to support a growing portfolio of live projects and welcome applications from Senior and Principal-level contractors to join the team to support the workload.
Our Electrical Services teams work across a range of UK projects, delivering complex solutions within Nuclear, Defence and other regulated sectors, alongside wider infrastructure and energy environments.
Roles are available across multiple locations.
What You Will Be Doing
Deliver engineering design and consultancy services for BakerHicks under the direction of the line manager or project lead. Produce design outputs (drawings, specifications, reports), undertake site surveys, support construction stages, liaise with clients and design/construction teams, manage projects, oversee costing, and ensure progress against the project brief. Check calculations and detailed drawings to ensure designs meet quality standards, compliance requirements, and client expectations. Work collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and buildable solutions. Maintain an understanding of CDM requirements.

Projects range from early design through to delivery and operational support, providing exposure to technically challenging and safety‑critical environments.
What You’ll Bring
Confidence in producing high-quality designs, with the technical capability to carry out independent checks and ensure accuracy. A strong awareness of commercial considerations, with the ability to identify and flag potential risks or concerns where appropriate. A solid understanding of project delivery and people management principles, enabling effective anticipation of challenges and proactive escalation of risks or recommendations.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications & Eligibility
Ideally Chartered Engineer status, or working towards (CEng CIBSE or CEng IET) Eligible to obtain SC clearance at minimum
Technical Experience
Considerable design, technical detailing and specification writing experience. Possess a working knowledge of BIM Level 2 Delivery. Possess a working knowledge of Navisworks, AutoCAD, NBS and Amtech/Trimble, or ideally exposure to Electrical OM Experience working in integrated, multi‑discipline design teams Familiarity with technical assurance and quality processes
Security & Project Requirements
Due to the nature of our work, these roles will require SC or DV security clearance. Where appropriate, BakerHicks will support individuals through the clearance process.
