Senior/Principal Transport Planner & Modeller
We are seeking an experienced Senior/Principal Transport Planner and Modeller to lead the delivery of complex transport modelling and development planning projects, with a particular focus on microsimulation modelling and transport appraisal.
Your New Role
Transport Planning
- Direct the preparation and review of Transport Studies, Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans, along with associated technical reports.
- Experience supporting masterplanning, site promotion, and transport strategy development is desirable.
- Experience in preparing transport business cases is highly valued.
Transport Modelling & Microsimulation
- Lead the development, calibration, validation, and application of microsimulation models, including tools like VISSIM.
- Provide technical leadership on junction modelling and network assessments using Junctions 10, LinSig, and other relevant software.
- Develop robust modelling methodologies, analysis frameworks, and scenario testing to support planning applications, infrastructure studies, and business cases.
- Oversee sensitivity analysis and mitigation design, ensuring outputs are defensible, client-aligned, and of high integrity.
- Act as a technical reviewer/approver for modelling studies, maintaining quality assurance standards.
- Support integration with strategic and multimodal modelling where appropriate.
- Advise stakeholders on modelling assumptions, methodology, and result interpretations.
Project Leadership & Delivery
- Manage delivery from inception to completion for transport planning and modelling tasks against programme, budget, and quality requirements.
- Provide strategic transport advice to clients across development, infrastructure, aviation, and public sector projects.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead technical discussions with local authorities, statutory consultees, and clients.
- Present modelling results at client meetings, stakeholder workshops, planning committees, and public inquiries as required.
Team Leadership & Development
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level transport planning & modelling consultants.
- Lead technical training and knowledge-sharing initiatives on modelling and planning.
- Support resource planning and capability growth.
- Foster innovation in digital delivery and best practice.
Business Development
- Lead bids, tenders, and framework opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to expand modelling, appraisal, and transport planning services.
- Cultivate key client accounts and strategic growth initiatives.
- Contribute to thought leadership, conference presentations, and industry engagement.
About You
Key requirements include:
- A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of transport planning and modelling consultancy experience.
- Extensive hands-on experience in VISSIM microsimulation, Junctions 10, and LinSig.
- Strong track record in delivering transport evidence for major planning applications, infrastructure projects, and business cases.
- Deep understanding of DfT TAG, NPPF, and transport planning guidance frameworks.
- Proven project management and client leadership experience.
- Excellent analytical, report writing, and communication skills.
